Only Watch pieces retrospective

Nov 12, 2015,05:28 AM

Now that the Only Watch 2015 auction is over, I thought it could be interesting to share here the different unique pieces Patek Philippe unveiled for this event which is held every two years.

Some have unique features and others have a unique material choice. I found these pictures on Patek's official website.

2015 - The last one that you already know about: the 5016A-001 in steel.

2013 - The very sporty Titanium 5004:

2011 - The 3939 Minute Repeater Tourbillon with its fabulous black dial with Breguet numerals (made at the special request of Kari and Imran):

2009 - A "celestial" 5106 with the kind of dial we find on the current 6102P. The dial looks mesmerizing:

2007 - A Nautilus 5712 strap version but in Titanium:

2005 - And to finish with, the very original (for our time) 5099 with it famous front hinged cover:

I like the beautiful 3939 black dial: what's you favorite?

Cheers, Mark

By the way, Patek Philippe has released a little communication message for the last auction:

The 6th edition of Only Watch was held for the first time in Geneva on Saturday, November 7th 2015.

"Only Watch is a charity auction which has been taking place every 2 years since 2005. The proceeds from the sales are donated to the Monegasque Association against Muscular Dystrophy to help finance research for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, a degenerative neuromuscular disease affecting one in 3’500 children, adolescents, and young adults around the world.

For the Only Watch 6th edition, Patek Philippe participated with an exceptional and unique Ref. 5016 in stainless steel.

The Patek Philippe Ref. 5016A (Lot nr. 16) reached a new record result of CHF 7.300.000.- and becomes the highest priced wristwatch of this charity auction since its debut in 2005.

44 unique watches were sold under the hammer of Phillips Auctioneers for a total of CHF 11.160.000.-, making it the most successful benefit event organized by Association Monégasque contre les Myopathies (AMM) to date."

would love to see it emerging in this forum one day! Thanks for the retrospective Mark; we can note a clear evolution in the pieces presented each year. Cheers, Alex

I agree, pictures of these unique watches are much to rare (if any)

As for the evolution, I guess they copy the evolution of times and the humor of the market indeed. Cheers, Mark

Great summary and can only imagine if they are all in the same hand of one owner...

I like the 5004T the most for its looks and material choice. Think using a material not otherwise in production makes something quite unique. Would like to see tantalum or palladium or even ceramic or forged carbon in the future...

many thanks Mark

My pleasure CH' :) Some are really nice indeed

I remember you have a similar model as the first one, that's a very original layout and shows a very high level of polishing on very different parts of the case. Cheers, Mark

I don't know but hope they are spread out there

The 5004 has a very unusual sporty look for a Patek and this makes it vey unique indeed. You have many interesting ideas for materials but my guess is that many seem unlikely to be chosen Cheers, Mark

Celestial is my favorite...

I don't know if it is the picture but yet the dial looks amazing. I've seen the current 6102 and the sapphire work is trully beautiful. Cheers, Mark

I like cheap materials...

Split second in titanium or the last version in steel... But for the time being I need to be happy with what I already have. Best, Kari

You're right

We must remain humble and keep close to basic materials Cheers, Mark

As long it's not fusion of ground and sky...

and will just get a second one for me too Julian This black dial + Breguet numerals and hands is gorgeous. Cheers, Mark

My first time to see the 5712 in titanium.....

 By: beejo : November 13th, 2015-17:05
And I think it looks so darn good. Best, Ahmed

It looks like the 5712G strap too however with some differences

Especially, as you'll notice from the two bottom subdials. I imagine the light weight must be what the wearer feels the most. Cheers, Mark The 5712T with its silver subdials: ... versus regular 5712G: ...
