Very kind of you on the 5170r. And I agree with you on its uniqueness and how it fits into the PP historical lineup, with the 5070 as its stockier predecessor and the new one with retro / almost art deco charm. I really see it as this potentially semi-iconic piece, or at least it fits into my mind exactly as such... with the breguets, new movement, elegant case, etc. Yet it always seems completely overlooked. The black dial / breguet'd 5170g seems to always get the nod over the R, and don't get me wrong - its gorgeous - but I wear brown, never really blacks, so I don't really ever pull out a black faced watch, unless its tan strapped or on bracelet... Anyways - thanks for the curiousity and it sounds like our styles triangulate similarly - good luck on your pursuit & keep me posted.
As for these straps, none of them (except the original it came from) are PP, the nubuck croc was a custom 21x16, and others have just been borrowing from my inventory to try to find cohesion. Guessing will now do a couple more custom 21x16s now that I finally seem to have cracked the code on a direction that is resonant.

Recently warmed up my 5170r, trying this lighter brown python on it and cannot take it off my wrist... something about the little bit of orange in the strap is just harmonizing with the RG / opaline / breguets. Unedited pic: ...

Understand fully what your saying. I have the same with some of my watches. Now I must admit I don’t own a single PP (but fortunately do own a lot of VC’s haha)
Nice nice

Have always been a fan of the boutique edition in your thumbnail. And I agree - its like I try these various combos, and some just really work with a given watch's personality (or really don't). Call me crazy, but have even gotten into mixing oysterflex r...

For instance ice got at least 6 different straps for my Overseas: metal, blue leather , blue rubber, brown leather with white stitches, burgundy leather with blue stitches And every strap makes it a different watch

You really bring out the best in your Patek 5170R. I believe this particular dial color/case metal combination is a lifetime keeper. What are the color/hide straps you currently dedicate to this piece? Also, what colors/hides do you believe you may acquir...

This was a loaner strap off another piece (20x18, had to borrow a buckle), so I'm slacking until I find a 21x16 strap that fully works. I wouldn't say I'm hooked on the python necessarily, but this color hue is just singing with the RG. Perhaps the right ...

Yes, the RG settles in nice and comfy with the lighter golden hues of the strap. You are very good at what you do. Best, Robert
