Mark, as always your review is excellent. I am not a frequent

contributor on the PP forum though I am an owner. (I have possession of two ladies PP from the 70's and 80's belonging to my late-Mom.)
- While I love PP as a brand and for its amazing history an back catalog, I have mixed feelings about modern PP. They talk about exclusivity and superiority; while many experts and journalists comment that with the exception of PP's complications / especially grand-complications, the finishing on PP is less than stellar when compared to some of its competitors. Also, their volumes are increasing significantly every year.
- This said, I love PP grand complications. But I am not a fan of their general time-only pieces etc. I feel they are overpriced and overrated.
- Now back to the Pilots Watch. It is always nice for a brand to try something daring. Why not? But something about this piece does not make sense. When the market is full of Pilots watches across a broad price level, why does PP need to do the same? (Its a bit like every auto maker wanting to build an SUV. So desperate are people for an SUV, that even Ferrari has its own version, Lamborghini will have its own version, and Bentley is introducing one next month. But if one compares the charm of old Bentley's - Arnage and Continental T of the 90's with the platform engineered missiles of today, you get the picture !) And why under the Calatrava collection? Calatrava is their signature collection and why tamper with this? Also, why have a Pilots watch made of gold? They just overhaul their entry-level Calatrava collection and make it more attractive rather than add this to it.
- If I was in the market to buy a timepiece at this price range, and if I am considering PP and few others, there are so many other options. Even within PP. But that is me.
- Sometimes I have to keep reminding myself that there is too much money in this world and too little taste and the definition of what constitutes rich / wealthy is different. There are far too many people with excess money to burn and this timepiece is just 'another' addition to a growing collection.
- I am sure this piece will sell very well. It will become highly collectible. And will even do well in auctions. But for me it does nothing emotionally.
- Within the PP range there are far too many impressive timepieces that warrant attention over this one.
- I hope I have not offended any one.
