if the watch is in very good condition then better to defer. Especially if you might want to sell at a later time, then my understanding is that most buyers would prefer it not have been polished. -a

The price of a watch drops after a polish. Collectors usually prefer unpolished or in its original state but If I have a scratch or a ding that bothers me a lot, I would have it "fixed"otherwise I would leave it be.
