My pleasure -- the first Patek is such an important purchase that I sincerely hope your husband will enjoy the experience to the fullest! :-) In return, we'll be asking you to post a wristshot on our forum after the purchase has been finalized ;-))

You are right in that the 6119 is a more modern Calatrava -- I like to call it the "new generation" of this line, which includes a highly nontrivial makeover both on the dial and the movement side. Personally, I view it as a significant watch to wear at business meetings and on many other formal occasions.

However, something I would suggest is that he try it on before deciding in favor or against (this is true for any reference, to the extent it's feasible). If you call a few ADs in your region, you and your husband will most likely have the opportunity to pay them a visit, have a coffee or a glass of champagne, and see the 6119 in person along with the other references available in the shop. I bet he will love them, but trying them on first is often the best way to go. In the end, the important thing with a watch of this caliber is that he purchase it *only if* he is fully and immediately convinced about it! smile

We'll be available for you Madam if you have further questions, and we'll be looking forward to receiving your updates as you move along in the process! ;-)

It will be a memorable purchase for an even more memorable occasion....hence, no matter the reference, I very much hope your husband will love his first Patek along with the whole experience of acquiring it! smile

Help! Trying to buy a Calatrava for Husband- wedding anniversary

 By: csk323 : May 5th, 2021-18:19
Hi! Our 25th is coming up. My husband has talked about owning a Patek Phillip Calatrava for as long as I can remember. We looked at them in person only once at a jeweler in St. Thomas. It was have been around 2005. The watch he loved had a hobnail bezel i...

This is one of my favorites...

www.patek.com Pick your metal but I like classic yellow gold. I really like the hunter back so you have a solid back and a clear back to look at the movement...best of both worlds.

Thanks!

Agree on the metal...haven't figured that out yet. My husband seemed to really like the hobnail so I think that's a given. Any advice on how to pick size??

I love the hobnail bezel myself, but as FabR states below...

...those two references are manual-wind. The 3919 is considered fairly small these days unless he has a small-ish wrist. They are both more on the formal side so maybe not best for a daily wearer but that's personal. I know a guy who wears his ref. 5120 t...

A sincere welcome to our forum Madam, and congratulations in advance to your husband on his first Patek Philippe! :-)

I believe you are correct in identifying the reference you saw back in St. Thomas. It might have well been either a 5119 (a reference introduced in 2007), or if your visit took place earlier, a 3919. Now both of these references are out of the official ca...

Thank you for taking the time to post a reply with such detail. I have explored the site. I'm a little hesitant on the most recent release 6119. It seems less formal or dressy than its predecessors. I believe my husband will wear this watch for formal occ...

The Patek experts will chime in with better information but here's a current version you're describing.

Patek 6119R - The hobnail bezel (Clous de Paris) is beautiful. ...

Hi Cindy, you've gotten good advice from two longtime members here.

If you'd like the name of a U.S. dealer who I've worked with and trust, you can pm me. That would be gray market, sometimes the only choice for an out-of-production model, but FabR has noted the caveats. His suggestion of working with a Patek dealer for a...

Patek 5115, enamel dial, no date, 35mm Patek 5117, non-enamel dial, with date, 37mm Both with hobnail bezels. They were offered in white and colored gold. Good luck! John

A point of consideration if buying secondary market

By: Time to watch : May 5th, 2021-19:20
Make sure that your are buying a complete set. That is, the watch, the original box and certificate of origin papers and instruction booklet with leather folder. Anything missing will require the seller to discount the price as having a full set is always...

Agree!

Thank you. If I do go with an out of production piece, I would only consider with box and papers. Too many pitfalls.

If it were me, I would definitely buy from an authorized dealer. There are many advantages as mentioned above.

I am sure your husband will likely catch the watch bug like we all have on this form. Then he will have a direct supply of good watches from an AD. It’s good to develop a relationship with an authorized dealer. I highly recommend it. Good luck in your hon...

A great achievement!

Congratulations on your 25th anniversary! You would like to consider two watches since your husband likes the watch with a hobnail bezel in rose gold and with a visible movement- the 5119 and 5116. The difference between the two is the 5116 comes with an ...

I hope you are doing well. How is the skeleton Patek? I have not seen that beauty in a while. Take Care CB

Hey CB, how have you been?!

 By: sham1 : May 6th, 2021-04:39
My skeleton remains in the safe of my AD in the UK while I am stuck here in Malaysia. It will be shipped to me in 2023 in conjunction of my 60th birthday!

Vaccine and watch!

Hello Jurry, I love your thought about searching for a model from the year we were married- 1996, though I suspect I may be looking for a needle in a haystack. Very romantic, indeed. I have found this group so very helpful. thanks so much. Cindy

6119

 By: csk323 : May 6th, 2021-16:02
My only concern about the 6119, is that it looks a little less formal/dressy. and it looks a little less thin. though that could just be how I'm seeing it online. My husband loves the thin profile. Please let me know if I am wrong?? thank you

A warm welcome Cindy and congratulations on your wedding anniversary ! I believe that you have received some great advice from our forum members.

To me, buying from an AD will be a great experience for you and your husband. On the other hand, discontinued new and old Calatravas at dealers would likely provide better pricing. Hence, I would suggest that you or both of you should decide on your prior...

You'll all been so kind...need some further direction please

 By: csk323 : May 7th, 2021-03:01
Gentleman, thank you for you kindness and direction thus far. I have narrowed down to either the 5119 or the new 6119. Still deciding on yellow or rose gold. My challenge: I can not find an AD that seems to have either. I've checked the larger storefront ...

Some ideas

 By: db1 : May 7th, 2021-04:36
6119 may be tough right now since it was just released. Any NYC AD may be able to show you though, if they have it - likely tough though If you are looking for 5119 or 3119 to see in person, and live in NYC, can ask Michael Ashton, or Aaron Faber. They ma...

I'm in NY...any AD leads?

 By: csk323 : May 8th, 2021-03:24
Thanks again all. I've tried Govberg, Michael Ashton, Tourneau, Betteridge. I did see a piece on Chrono24 but I wasn't sure. I'll take another look. Watchbox also has 3119 but haven't seen 5119. I really appreciate all the help. I will continue searching ...

UPDATE: The Final Two!

 By: csk323 : May 9th, 2021-19:10
With tremendous help from this group, in particular one member who has kindly tolerated my many questions and has helped in my search, I am down to the final two.

I'm sincerely glad we were able to help Madam, and as I understand it, the search is now down to two watches (both Calatravas 5119R). I just eliminated the links to secondary dealers which we don't allow here, and replaced it with the basic information.

 By: FabR : May 9th, 2021-21:00
Of course, the market values, which we also refrain from discussing, are different according to the age of the model. Whichever your final decision, I wish you again the best of luck! ;-)

Apologies FabR

 By: csk323 : May 9th, 2021-21:35
Thank you for correcting my post. I apologies for breaking the rules. Is it okay to ask if there is a difference in style, movement or "collectibility" between 5119R- 2008 and 2019?
