Big hug Robert65. Hey, at least you have a nice dilemma, choosing between two very nice timepieces.

I'm just of the opinion that the jury should not be tainted with opinions of those who are not invested in you personally (only someone who knows you and the watches are qualified to make an opinion on your behalf). A watch should be an expression of oneself. Look at creations from MB&F and Urwerk. They're definitely not intended for the mainstream and they're very individualistic. Success is definitely a wide ranging word. One can be financially successful and afford some of these watches and yet be unsuccessful in other aspects of life. For instance an individual could be financially successful and own multiple platinum watches but may not have a good relationship with his children. We've all had failures in our life. But to be able to this dilemma between choosing two platinum watches is a very nice problem to have. Maybe you don't feel very successful because you have very high standards. Hopefully you'll get there, hopefully I'll get there. Hopefully we will both get there. I've sent you a PM.

Dress watch comparo: 5196p vs 5110p
By: Robert65 : July 9th, 2020-12:40
Greetings - trying to find a platinum Patek that is thin (sub 10mm) and small diameter (37-38) which can be worn as a dress watch. I know the typical definition of a dress watch is a 2 or 3 hand (no date) very simple dial... and the World Time doesn't mee...
Ouch Patrick...

Seen this nearly-verbatim response on other occasions and it's always a pin-prick to the eyeball. However, it's quite accurate. After re-reading my post, I do feel slightly shamed now for asking strangers opinions, and a little more ashamed for not feelin...
How about this.

I will reword your question in an attempt at shame reduction. Iโm looking into a platinum dress watch and I love PP. Iโve narrowed it down to 2 models that are in my price range and both seem wonderful. But as I have not owned either, Iโm looking for feed...
Well worded!

Concise, informative, elegant! Best, Robert
Love hugs!

Thanks!
Here's one con about the 5110P and one potential con about the 5196P
By: patrick_y : July 9th, 2020-15:57
The 5110P has the 240 caliber. One of my favorite calibers because it has a micro rotor movement! I just like micro rotors, no particular reason why. While micro rotor watches are super cool, they are less efficient. The 240 caliber only winds in one dire...
Very nice Nico

Thank you for sharing!
Thanks Fab

Also, the 5196p has the platinum deployant and the clear caseback going for it...
Both are great

But I do have a 5196P available to go immediately
A pure dress watch...

A pure dress watch should be as simple as possible, hence my vote would be for the 5196P.
5110 for me
By: jleno : July 9th, 2020-13:52
The solid case back on the 5196 is a deal breaker.
Let me help you with some of these photos
By: Clueless_Collector : July 9th, 2020-14:04
but honestly I would love to own the 5110p as well because it's different and PP WT is best! You won't go wrong with either but like Patrick suggested, wear it and feel them, you'll know right away. ...
Beautiful photos

and impressive glace on your dress shoes! Best, Robert
Get the 5110P
By: watch-er : July 9th, 2020-14:44
The 5196 series while very popular really needs an upgrade in terms of increased movement size to balance the perspective of the dial. This is probably coming very soon.
I would choose the 5110P
By: sham1 : July 9th, 2020-15:52
For me, it is the nicest size world timer and it has a useful complication should you travel a lot. Also the guilloche on the dial is an added attraction. The 5110P has a basic 215 movement but you will own a manual winding watch which for me personally t...
I would go with the 5110P.
By: Horo_Traveler : July 9th, 2020-19:42
But the 5196P has its own charm. Also, I find the 5110P dial to be not not as legible, as the hands get washed out on the dial depending on the light. All that said, it has real charm and romance. ...
My choice was easy...
By: SRG : July 9th, 2020-21:22
I would choose the 5196P. I think it is one of the nicest "simple" watches available. I would not choose the 5110, because I have a difficult time reading it. As my eyes have gotten older (along with the rest of me), I cannot read the small print. Also, t...
They wear very differently on the wrist
By: blau : July 10th, 2020-04:07
Despite numbers that are very close to one another! I think that's an important thing to consider. The 5110 dial is smaller and much more intricate, so it feels *even* smaller. The 5196 dial is wider and plainer, so it feels much more expansive. The 5110 ...
