Does anyone want to participate in some Basel 2020 Patek Calatrava speculation?
Feb 18, 2020,17:39 PM
Facts
1/ We know from the Autumn 2019 Patek Magazine that new Calatravas are coming.
2/There is the new movement 26-330
3/It is meant to appeal to "younger" buyers
Speculation
1/It seems unlikely there will be a steel time-and-date-only model calatrava?
2/New dress watches are typically 39-40mm (even though i don't support this it seems to be the market)
3/The best way to make a calatrava more casual is to have more brushed surfaces as well as a calf strap.
4/Matching color date wheel (they need to add a feature to make it competitive with aquanaut and nautilus)
5/Dial colors beyond opaline.

If it’s something nice, the only way to get it is though a gray dealer at 50% premium.
I think it will be completely against the PP DNA in order

To resucitate the dress watch through a younger buyer. Looking like ressence perhaps. Very minimalist. Perhaps extra complication like days of the week or off centred sub dials
From sketch to production might be 3-5 years, do you think?

Where were we 3-5 years ago? I don’t follow closely enough or am not familiar enough with the catalogue to really have any meaningful thoughts but what’s the chance of more faux patina or vintage inspired watches? That to me seems more likely than Patek t...

If the 5212a had been exactly the same but with just time and date (and not handwritten bits obviously) i would buy in an instant. I think the concern from a business standpoint is that once you introduce steel, you cannibalize your precious metal turnove...

New, hobnail bezel in 39mm with new, stop-seconds movement. 6006G with blue dial (or, even better, 6006R with rose dial). 39mm replacement to 5296 with new movement. Dare I venture? 5976/1A (44mm). 5168A and 5168/1A Updated replacement to 5067. New, large...
