I wouldn't attribute the change to Thierry. There are many things that are still done without his actual personal involvement.
The whole design selection is done by committee. I'd say the designers have run out of their best design ideas and are now coming out with less powerful second-tier designs. Thierry chooses the best design (with a panel), but if all of the designs are bad, he's only capable of choosing the best one out of all of the bad ones.
Patek Philippe is becoming more diluted. It's the new Rolex. It's a new symbol. It's becoming very very mainstream.
I have not made such an observation regarding Thierry trying to be more accessible and nice. But I've only met him a few times over a few years, and most of those encounters were short, we only got into somewhat deeper discussion once.
Lastly, wait a bit. The year is not over yet!

Hopefully,like Manchester United, this period of bad form will pass. I just don't want to be sitting around thinking about the good old days when United won the treble and tons of trophies and Patek made beautiful watches.

No question arises... 'how do I read this weird chronograph?' You look at it and instantly recognize the design. It truly makes you wonder why anything, other than technology, has been changed. yes that might be 'boring' ... But look at Rolex--essentially...
Same feeling here... that is timeless elegance, and that, for me, is Patek.
