In general there is a discount for a watch that lacks original papers, what this discount is depends on the watch. For a 25 year Calatrava I would say 15-20% a decent indication. Then the cost of service has to be estimated, I would inquire at the AD that you would send the watch through as to what service cost and expected duration is. Then price the time apart from the watch while it is on service. If you intend on sending it away immediately there is some value to that wait. Then make an assessment of condition, if they are both equal then there is little to consider on this front. Then add up and estimate a true cost to you. Then throw in some gut feel and go for the one that makes you the most happy. Good luck!

If it is semi vintage...you should be able to find one in mint condition with original certificate and box.
I would find one with original certificate and box in mint condition if it semi vintage (unless, it is some rare version). If it is vintage from 40's to 60's, then you don't have the luxury to wait for one to pop up. best luck.
