For the pleasure of the eyes: Patek World Time Chronograph 5930G.

I am still waving about the 5930, G or A, truth to be told. I love the concept, but I am a bit disturbed by the chronograph subdial, which I find a tad too small... I still don't know how it will end... Best, Nicolas ...

Beautiful portrait of one of the most underrated Patek references (at least until the introduction of the P iteration with its stunning green dial! ;-)

As a technical aside, there is no 5930A, but as I recall you liked the new 5935A, that is the steel version you might be referring to --- same CH 28-520 HU Caliber, but a 1.5mm larger (and a slightly thinner) case! Cheers.

👍🥂

Absolutely.

I look forward to seeing all the creative combinations fellow owners realize. Thank you very much for your kind words, Fab! As a gentleman of great style, I appreciate your compliment very much.

Superb.

You should know Nico…

One case -> one reference New case -> new reference apart from one possibly unique exception, issue subject to verification presently under investigation hehehe 😉

Hehehe, yes!

Thanks Fab for your confirmation

But I read between the lines that you know some exceptions… we were discussing this issue precisely with Nico the other day. The only example I know (but I am not even sure of) is the ref 2499 between series I, II and III where the case size was modified....

Hi Mike, it might be an interesting topic of study, but alas, the "numerology" just doesn't seem to be regulated in a predictable/consistent way... I'd safely call that a "general rule" since many limit examples are quickly coming to mind.

 By: FabR : May 25th, 2023-07:17
For instance, this year we announced the new Ref. 5189G, which going by the info I was given, appears to have the same case as the earlier Ref. 5177, with the only exception of the addition of a solid case back. There are then (numerous) other examples wh...

Huge thanks Fabrizio for having taken the time for such a detailed answer

We obviously reach the same conclusion of a genereal rule with unexplained exceptions but your detailed answer gives quite valuable insights. Again thank you my friend, Mike

PS: As a possibly interesting addition, I believe you are correct about the change in size of Ref. 2499 throughout its long existence, at least in part explained by the change in case makers.

Here are a couple of good articles on the broader topic by two reliable sources: Further info can be found online, for instance by googling 'patek 2499 vichet wenger'. Hope this helps, and thanks again for bringing up an interesting topic! Cheers.

Huge thanks Fabrizio for these very interesting links

I enjoyed reading all in detail tremendously 🙏 this was very very interesting information. Before reading all I was thinking I was « in the know » but actually I was having a very limited knowledge about all these details. Merci Fab 😉🙏

Hummm, it is a grande complication, but.....

with world time and chronograph together, the dial is quite busy. I prefer the "simple" world time alone. Unfortuantely, I couldn't read it with my old eys so had to sell a YG and then a RG model. I wish I could have kept them. Beautiful pieces.

For sure, that one is one to keep

It is a real beauty.

If you ignore the world time chapter ring the sub dial looks okay. Best Gatsby

I’m with you on your observation.

I had the same sentiment when I saw it in the metal. Ev checks out except the way to small chrono register. But, is there perfection?

Good question! ;)
