Hard decision...

...between these two! I love them both, but I decided for the 5235R. The dial is more interesting and as you described the movement is superior due to the Pulsomax escapement. And the movement is much prettier with the microrotor, finishing is top level and it is just available in this reference. BUT the 5235 is the more eccentric watch which might be less popular.

The 5205R is one of the best looking pateks imo. And is has the moon phase, is more classical... The movement is good too of course, but much more „standard“ for patek and not as beautiflu with the central rotor - just imho.

If the movement is important to you, take the 5235. If the looks and popularity are more, take the 5205. You can either do anything wrong - both top end watches!!

Advice? Thinking about getting my first Patek dress watch!

Now the contestants are 5205r and 5235r. Tried both. Loved both. But leaning towards 5235r because of the movement. 1. 5025r has nicer case than 5235r and easier to read whilst 5235r has a date at 6 o’clock that I prefer not to have!! 2. But the regulator...

Thanks P for the first hand experience!

Your post was one of the reasons that I tried the regulator! Haha

Two beauties that convey lots of charm and elegance, so this ultimately comes down to a very subjective choice, especially after you've tried on and liked both...

My only comment is probably that, while there are several ACs in the catalog, technically (and aesthetically) there's really no other Patek like the 5235/50R! But whichever your final decision, you can be sure you've acquired an outstanding a great lookin...

unusual (5235) or traditional (5205). The regulator has a lovely brushed dial and a dial design that is unusually interesting ! The dial design of 5205 is well balanced and classy. It contains more functions (moon phase and 24 hour sub-dial) and has unusu...

couldn't agree more with Glau and Janef

If it is your first PP, I would go for the 5205, it has a stronger PP DNA and classic aesthetic. The 5235 will make you happy once you've owned a few and are feeling adventurous. I personally like to cover the basics/fundamentals before venturing out and ...

Size to me is a factor

with one being 38mm and the other 40mm. I prefer smaller than 40mm for a dress watch. The 40mm actually looks big on you. But its all personal taste.

...but the sub-dial at 6 is a mess. It's mostly covered up...but I love the roundness of the case compared to the 'flatter' 5235.

Thank you guys for the invaluable comments!

I agree with all of your advice - 5205r being a Patek DNA watch and 5245r being a more innovative and adventurous one. I like to cover the base and eventually have a well rounded collection like all of you too! I haven’t made the decision yet and will see...

I want to raise the issue of watch hands:

 By: chk : May 24th, 2020-23:53
Fat dauphine (5205) vs thin batons (5235): there is a world of difference between the two styles of hands, and I suppose your preference for one - over the other - should be obvious to yourself, and you should follow this 'preference' as every time you lo...

Thank you!!

I wasn’t particularly bothered by either type of hands! In fact I think both of them are beautiful- but I have a slight compliant against the aperture of 5205r - if only the background color is black too it will be very cool!

Two beautiful pieces.

When I was getting an annual calendar the choice was either a 5205R-010 or a 5235G. I went with the 5235G due to the new movement and design (the case being similar to 3448 and the regulator design).

Great choice!

I have no regrets getting the 5235G. I find it very easy to read the time and it only took me a day to get used to it.

Not a PP guy as it is out of my league but do enjoy the post on this forum of some of their amazing pieces... [nt]

The brushed dial of the 5235r is amazing and would probably sway me in that direction... Both are extremely classy and would be a tough decision.. good luck -D-

5205R for me

My opinion is biased as I am not a fan of brushed dials, I would prefer a Guilloche dial. But that is not applicable here.

So difficult

Without knowing your lifestyle needs and other watches I collection my choice would fall on the following aspect... If the intention is regular wear I would go 5205, it works in more situations in my opinion. Very very elegant but can be casual as well. I...

At the moment and that might be the reasons why 5235r found a spot in my heart!! This would be my first or second Patek so I might need to go bother the AD and try them on a few more times!
