Today all Patek G’s are grey gold.

I have seen this on my Gs as well. From approximately 2006 Patek started to move away from rhodium surface treatment to Grey gold. I am certain sone of the Expert herre can confirm exactly when and what models was moved to the new material over time.

When I compare the 5170G to either the 5960P or 5070G it is much more greyish / yellowish.
I do not experience this as an «issue» in bright day light or when I do not have a direct comparison. Though the hue from ny 5960P is brilliant 😀

Best,
Chris

5712 vs 5740 and other WG models: anyone find the new Patek WG too gray?

 By: mattg6 : February 11th, 2021-19:30
I think it’s now “gray gold” or whatever they call it. I find the old style white gold was much whiter and basically indistinguishable from platinum. Whereas the new WG is almost a dark gray. In low lighting it actually looks matte. It reminds me of tanta...

Same opinion here

I didn’t realize this in beginning. Now I have to confess that is the reason it doesn’t get much wristtime. Seems I am not the only one who has that problem. Best Tempus ...

Sad to hear you confirm my fear!

I really want to buy the 5740 for the dial, movement and amazing nautilus fit but just can’t pull the trigger because of the gray gold The platinum nautilus models are a little too blingy with the diamonds unfortunately So annoyed an entire section of Pat...

In the past, PP used to rhodinate its wg cases.

Rhodinated wg is just as bright as platinum. However, the rhodium plating may wear of, like gold plaque. I am not sure, though, when they stopped rhodium plating. I thought it was long before the 5205. Personally, I prefer pure white gold because of its w...

5740 is as gray (gold) as the 3711g was,

3700 white gold was different. Not shure about the whitegold/plating in the non-sports-lineup. I personally love the warm luster of this gray gold. So different from the shiny steel/platinum/plated look.

On the 5740 it’s definately more yellow....as for SS and platinum...platinum to my eye is much whiter....a 5740P would

be a wonderful 50th anniversary LE although I am aware of a 5740 with baguette diamonds for the VVVVVIP

I have seen and had both on my wrist and to me...

they are different watches and each has its own DNA. The brighter blue dial of the 5740 matches well with a less bright case and bracelet, whereas the darker blue dial of 5712 goes well with a brighter steel case and bracelet. Both are fabulous IMO !

So true. Each of them has its own merits.

Both are beautiful and exquisite in their own way. Great combo from Patek.

Today all Patek G’s are grey gold.

I don't see a problem here: different material, different look and feel

Buy the one you prefer. It's true though that not all the combinations are available, but there are still a few to choose from 😉
