5135 question.....clicking sound....

Sep 11, 2010,06:31 AM

... I am wondering if anyone else has had this issue with a 5135 or any other automatic movement similar to this...
First before i go on i want to say that I have brought the watch to Patek here in NYC and after looking at it they told me there is nothing wrong at all mechanically with the watch and they suggested a full service ( cleaning, oiling, new crown. etc). the watch runs fine and keeps perfect time as well. All complications are right on the mark. Because of this i refused a $1600 service for lack of an answer to why this is happening.

What the watch is doing is when i make movements with my wrist (normal movements) there is a clicking sound. It isn't the sound of the swishing of the rotor. this is a distinctive clicking noise. It's not loud but it's there. It happens pretty much every time I make a side to side motion with my wrist to try to hear it. I can best describe the noise as if there is something tiny that has come loose inside the case, but if this was so I don't think it would be running so perfectly as it is. Also, Patek service would have surely noticed that something was loose. ( i would hope so anyway for Patek's sake)

Anyway, where i'm at now is thinking of bringing it back to Patek and having them re-examin the problem.
Any suggestions as to what it may be? Or has anyone every experience this with any of their watches particularly a 5135?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Is your watch working normally, out of that noise?

Hi, I'm asking this question because in fact in the winding train (the different wheels comprised between the rotor that creates the energy and the main barrel that keeps the energy before delivering it back to the escapement) there are wheels that can cr...

... it bothers me that Patek would just tell me it needs a service and NOT give any explanation as to what is wrong with the watch. I know this subject was just mentioned in a thread the other day about the way Patek will never explain to a customer what ...

I don't own a Patek, but the response from patek just doesn't smell right. I would obtain another watch of the same model & see if it makes the same noise, like at another AD or something. ..

Service costs

$1600 is almost 35% more than what there service estimate is for a annual calender including polish. What needs replacing after 3-4 years to justify this quote? Or are they just padding the bill? This seems to be more and more common, unfortunately.
