5130 Mecca

Sep 28, 2020,01:21 AM

Hi All,

My late father was close to Mr. Phillip Stern and he respected different religions.  As such, he was fortunate enough to be allocated a 5130P-015 Mecca although this piece was destined for the Middle East markets.  My dad was also born on Wednesday in which green is the day’s color. The green color represents paradise in the Quran.  The green dial has sunburst guilloche.  The heft of the platinum case is wonderful and gives such wrist presence!  One of the most meaningful 5130 Limited Editions IMO.  The Patek Philiippe Worldtimer 5130P-015 was made as a limited edition of 150 pieces in 2011-2012.

Your thoughts ?

added bonus it has no so called funny nickname due to its green colour (like Hulk or Kermit or so)

It is THE best version of the 5130p.

I share similar points of appreciation as you, cbb. The deep richness of that green, and what it represents. It’s mesmerizing. Thank you for posting this one since we don’t see it often enough. -A

Serious suggestion:

I think you should consider selling this one to a Muslim watch lover. However much it means to you, wouldn't it mean that much more to someone who actually holds the religion this piece celebrates?

I disagree

The watch holds no real connection to the Islamic religion in any real meaningful way. It’s a world timer with a focus on the city, and not the religion. It’s not a world prayer timer. Sincerely H.

While I am not aware of the public tower clock connection,

I also do find this iteration among the nicer world time watches. And so it’s no surprise it’s one of the highly sought after models for the world time collectors. While I’m not big on world time pateks, my favorite is the 175th anniversary edition. Regar...

That's a fair point.

It's not like this is an actual religious artifact.

I am a Muslim and I too disagree

simply because your dad was allocated this watch specially, probably the only person to be allocated one outside the Middle East. This is a great honour in my opinion and should be cherished and celebrated like you have done with this post.

That's also a fair point.

It is certainly an honor--not an honor I would have been eager to accept, but what do I actually know?

I also don't see the point of this suggestion, especially if it's meant to be serious rather than politically correct...

Frankly, I don't think it's up to anyone to decide which watches Muslims should enjoy, or to judge what Cbb's father was allocated by Patek. Also, Cbb has repeatedly expressed no interest in selling any piece of her family collection, and I believe this s...

Agreed [nt]

Very well done LE, at the same time bold and elegant. No mean feat. Enjoy it, cbb! Daniel
