5110G / spring bars Q

May 03, 2022,16:43 PM

Want to try different straps on this 5110g, I know it is recommended to use gold spring bars on gold cases to avoid damaging the holes at the lugs. Do you follow this recommendation? Is the damage caused by using steel spring bars really something to worry about in a piece like this, where there would not be any abuse to the watch besides normal wear.

Some of the straps I would like to try come with quick release spring bars that are certainly steel.... Thanks for sharing your opinions smile

Good question. A potential alternative would be to ask Patek Philippe to make your custom colored straps...

Assuming that you're after custom colors, Patek Philippe has a very wide range of straps in their strap catalogue. But if you're after materials that isn't offered in their catalogue, then you're out of luck. Personally, I would avoid using steel spring b...

yes, perhaps find straps that do not come with quick release, and just use the spring bars on the current strap

Apologies for the tardy reply but Iā€™m in the middle of my usual ā€œsummer moveā€ overseas these daysšŸ˜„Let me however reiterate Patrickā€™s advice to also consider Patekā€™s own broad strap selection for this beautiful piecešŸ‘

Your AD will be glad to show you the several options Patek offers upon request, and then place an order for youšŸ‘ Also, unless your manual abilities are MUCH better than mineā€¦Iā€™d definitely suggest that you leave any manual operations on such a special tim...

keep enjoying that summer move!

My local AD is not the most helpful, unfortunately.... and besides, as I did not buy this watch from them, they even questioned the authenticity of it, go figure! ... they leave a lot to be desired, and I have been a client for some years, buying other wa...

I didn't know you had so many bears! No wonder you have so many credit card bills!

Such a big family!

actual experience is very valuable!... would guess the potential issues would come after many years of use and depending on the use of the watch (for example, a white gold diver that would see some tougher use, perhaps)

I've never noticed a problem

Have worn many different strap with many different spring bars on my 5110G. Quite sure the bars have all been steel and quite sure I haven't noticed any problems because of them! Here it is on shell cordovan: and here just in from the rain on calf: and ou...

Good to know!

your strap choices are great on your 5110g

Nothing to worry about

No, I donā€™t think you have anything to worry about. Whether the springbars are white gold, steel, or otherwise, if you arenā€™t proficient at changing them youā€™ll scratch the inside of the lugs anyway. But who cares, itā€™s on the inside ā€” no one else sees it...

I visited Henri Stern in NYC this past Friday for service and also ordered a custom strap for one of my other watches.

While there I decided to buy a pair of YG spring-bars for easier changing between my deployant based strap and my pin buckle strap for my 3941J. I was pleasantly surprised that those spring-bars were "only" US$65 each/$130 for the pair. Plus it came with ...

Cool and good to know

I would have expected a more hefty price on the pair of spring bars, cheers
