5056P WARNING - Be careful with any complicated wrist watch especially if not pressure tested yearly

Jul 28, 2019,03:32 AM

Hello fellow Patek lovers,

I recently went to Singapore with my 5110 to rectify a rooted rotor.

After a full Patek Philippe service in Hong Kong in October 2018, my 5110J developed a stuck rotor.
The first time it jammed - I was able to free it again by pressing the timezone pusher.

Unfortunately (or fortunately) it jammed again soon afterwards.

I do not wear this watch much - saving her for special occassions and visits from the current pope and touring heads of state (sufficient to say - never at this stage).

I then took her to Patek Philippe Singapore to attend to the issue.  They are amazing and immediately offered to attend to the issue at no further costs.

I also took in my friends pride and joy.  A Patek 5056P.
Unfortunately he has never serviced this piece and whilst that can be ok..... he does wash his hands a fair bit as he is a doctor.  Unfortunately some water has enetered the watch and defaced the dial ever so slightly.
Please be very careful with any complicated Patek as this annual calender is otherwise functioning very well.

Patek qutoed a very fair and reasonable price to completely overhaul and replace the dial.  I thought the fee was very fair (I will not quote this figure as per rules of the forum).

Patek will have this watch back to perfection very soon.

How does water damage occur?

I would have thought the water resistance of most modern Pateks would tolerate the occasional splash from a wash basin. Are hand washings and London drizzles things best avoided when wearing anything other than a nautilus or aquanaut?

I can’t speak for the habits of others but, unless done at routine servicing, I have never had a pressure test done on a dress complication. Imagine with Patek notoriously long service times you’d never have to worry about your watch getting wet because y...
