3940 vs. 5146

I have been enjoying the 3940R I purchased two weeks ago, wearing it around the house and on the occasional dog walk. I've rotated it with my other watches, including my 5146G-001. When I made the step up to the 3940 Perpetual Calendar with its elegance and history, I thought the 5146 Annual Calendar would lose some appeal to me, like an old girlfriend does when you move on to the one you really wanted. Surprisingly, the reverse has been true. I really appreciate the size, wrist feel and legibility of the dial on the 5146, along with it's relative solidity as compared to the delicacy of the 3940. It's fair to say I don't regard one as "better than" the other, just different. And I guess this is a reason why we build a collection — to enhance, rather than replace, what we already own.

Both are lovely watches and you raise a very interesting point with a lot of truth to it. I have also found that love of a particular piece can wax and wane at times. Enjoy! [nt]

These watches, you can never say that anyone dominates another one. One day you like model A, next day you like model B. Makes this hobby more costly, I guess But also, it makes life more enjoyable!
