2 questions around Patek watches...

May 19, 2018,12:25 PM

hi all Patek fans!

1/ Is there a way to know how many have been produced until a model became discontinued? (or would someone from a Patek boutique be able to tell me by looking at the archives etc?)
2/ where could I find the original retail price of a watch on the primary market before it got discontinued?

Thanks!

Kev

“I think 5056P was a limited edition. As Patek almost never informs on the numers produced we can not know the production. The following is a quote from Christies: Reference 5056 was in production between 1998 to 2006. According to research no more than 3...

I saw that one but was not sure how accurate it was as I think someone else was contradicting it on another discussion But thanks ! I guess I will stay on your comment Kev

It was called a limited edition but I'm not convinced it was really very limited.

When I bought my 5035P I was offered the 5056P by many dealers. I had a difficult time tracking down a new 5035P. The 2006 Patek catalog lists the 5056 but doesn't say anything about being a limited edition. It is, after all, just a 5036 in platinum.

At the time...

... Patek communicated officially that a maximum of 250 pieces would be built per year. My personal estimate is approx. 800 pieces exist. The basis of this estimate is that if you look at auction results of all leading auction houses (i.e. there full data...

To add to George's reply above

The retail price of any Patek is also dependent on what year it was sold at since prices for the same model do vary from year to year depending on which country the watch is sold at. So it may not necessarily be the last or the first retail price of the w...

fair enough, but at least get a rough estimation at +/- 2K maybe? Anyway thanks for your answers Kev

That is correct!

As long as you are referring to the Pateks in the lower range. Alternatively, you may PM me as I keep the old Patek catalogues and price lists!!

If you consider the 5056P...

... just go for it. I find it very much underpriced. Limited number of pieces available and the grey dial in combination with the very substantial platinum case are so lovely! Personally, I have always liked the 90s/00s style of the dial with this 3d effe...

do you see any reason why it is underpriced?

I mean the watch is stunnning, the size is way better than the new bigger sizes in my opinion and its platinum though... Do you think the price will rise with time for this piece? Have you kept the original strap or changed it to a buckle or any other col...

My personal opinion: there is a more recent model and 5056P is too young for being a classical piece yet. Time will change the perspective. 5056P is a lovely watch you will wear and enjoy for many decades.

I meant: 5056P will develop into a classical piece...

Don't misunderstand me, my post was meant to be a recommendation in favor of the 5056P: Over time, the currently low pricing might change as people no longer feel the larger model with a different dial is "more recent". The 5056P might develop into a clas...

Thanks a lot for all the details

I do like this piece a lot indeed and was already loooking at adding a buckle to it but just realised the pricing of this tiny bit of WG...(around 2500£!)

...came with a classical tang buckle, i.e. if you like it original you might stick with that and don't go for a deployment clasp.

Wear it to work every day and couldn’t be happier with it. Also switched to the deployment, in PT. Heavy and pricey...but I’m OCD. No regrets at all! Go for it. ...
