You can't get wrong with one of these dream watches
and I'm fortunate to have both in my collection. Just in slightly different versions. My grey 5960 is more a daily wearer while my 3970R 3rd series is more for special occasions. Different watches in style and size but for my 17,5 cm wrist both work simply perfect for me

came across 2 wonderful references recently...a vintage & a modern....
3970 étanche 2nd series in yellow gold... 36 mm is not sized for today but it has a very good presence on the wrist plus i like the leaf hands ! unfortunately this is timepiece had a case back, so couldn't take pic of the movement - but i suppose the mov...
I would go with the 3970
Because of its leaf hands and my small wrist. 36mm is perfectly acceptable for me. Also, I am sucker for all things vintage. But that 5960 is really yummy too.
i do love the leaf hands...it is why the 1st & 2nd series is much sensual than the rest of 3970 imho
it does wear bigger / feels more than 36mm on the wrist ! having both would be a blessing ;-)
seem the interest on 36mm is coming back on timepieces...i read the first 3 comments & all vote for a 36mm
would it change if it was 5970 vs 3970 ?!

in both cases, the movement to case size is very consistent.
in deed Fab, working on that...i've affinity to 2nd series because of the leaf hands, i like them !

The 3970 for me
is the perfect perpetual calendar chronograph apart from its thickness. Okay so not so perfect then. In white metal, this watch is even better!

3970 All The Way!
I love that watch! Have owned one for several years . Classic styling and practical. The 36mm size is excellent.
i think most movements that are in use today were designed with the case size in general was much smaller...
what i meant is, the successor 5970 was 40mm but carried the same movement as in 3970 !
