2 Pateks chasing me / part 2

 By: MTR : January 20th, 2020-15:13
About 2 hours after a friend of mine persuaded me to try his 5159G for one night and one day (hoping I will become weak and buy it) I found by chance the 5320G in the shop window of an AD I sometimes visit. I stormed into the shop immediately since it was...

Congratulations!

I think it’s a Super-Cool Watch.

That‘s very nice from you but PLEASE

 By: MTR : January 20th, 2020-16:10
don’t congratulate. 😱 I am trying to stay strong and not to buy this watch!! And yes, you are right. It‘s super-cool. And very practical and legible, too.

woould cry. Perhaps...

That‘s nothing I want to read in this phase of suffering!!!

You could buy 2 JLC Doumetre for same money. 😎 Does this help me to stop you? 😆 Now I start to realize what „Vlad“ meant in some former posts... Amitiés mon ami

Pfffffff..... :-)

Is there anyone who can help me, please? Providing me with garlic etc?

Garwhat? [nt]

 By: amanico : January 22nd, 2020-07:37

Garlic helps against vampires.

 By: MTR : January 22nd, 2020-07:52
I have read somewhere.

This one gets my vote

 By: VinnieD : January 20th, 2020-15:25
Clean and relatively innovative design I was lucky enough to try one in the UK this summer and it was definitely a winner

A really sharp watch! [nt]

And your photos are 👍👍. M4

Yes it is!

 By: MTR : January 20th, 2020-16:06
Thank you for the compliment. Just iPhone shots. Best Thomas

Hahahahaaa!

You ve got my grail adore

Thanks a lot!

 By: MTR : January 20th, 2020-16:05
I appreciate this very much!

My pleasure! :-)

 By: MTR : January 21st, 2020-06:04
The watch is in real MUCH better than on pics. It´s lovely. And the dial is excellent to read (especially if you compare it with the 5159G I have got the chance to wear for 24 hours now). Best Thomas

Congratualtions.

 By: Seconds : January 20th, 2020-16:11
On a beautiful watch , have you changed the date . Regards.

No, it was "fresh" from the shop window.

 By: MTR : January 21st, 2020-06:06
No adjustments were made. Best thomas

You are completely right!

 By: MTR : January 21st, 2020-06:07
But ther gap between retail and secondary market is much bigger regarding the 5159G.

I like nearly ... everything, Ted-Lo.

 By: MTR : January 21st, 2020-06:14
The readability is excellent, the 40mm case is perfect for me, the colour of the dial, the three-dimensionality of the hour markers etc. etc. Even the hour markers at 5 and 7 near the date sector don´t disturb me in reality. I have to say that the whole a...

Great response!!

 By: K-Lo : January 21st, 2020-06:20
You clearly relayed your thoughts. And that shows deep insight.

That´s too kind!

 By: MTR : January 21st, 2020-06:26
Thank you very much for your nice words...

I fully understand this, yacomino.

 By: MTR : January 21st, 2020-06:17
I think it is extremely versatile, beautifulke AND practical. The only thing: I don´t understand why it is so difficult in this category to produce a case with a WR of at least 6 bar (better: 10 bar)?

The 5320G is definitely worthy of your consideration...

 By: Monopole : January 20th, 2020-18:12
I have enjoyed wearing mine thoroughly! Pricing wise, indeed, it’s much lower in the secondary market and it all depends on your approach and goal with AD.

The 5159G above is my favourite perpetual calendar

 By: sham1 : January 20th, 2020-21:47
but I am not sure why you said it was better value than the 5320G since it is priced higher new.

That´s right!

 By: MTR : January 21st, 2020-06:21
It is a beautiful watch and 100% Patek. But I found the dial hard to read in daily business.

I wore the 5159G for 24 hours now.

 By: MTR : January 21st, 2020-06:19
I don´t fell really in love. Although I wanted and liked it from the pics very much. But I don´t find it is easy to read ( I nearly missed a meeting today by mixing-up the date and the minute hand). And I also think that the 5320G is the better offer.

Thanks for updating me about something that comes to mind when one uses it.

 By: Pun : January 21st, 2020-19:27
I was more enamoured by the guilloche pattern of the dial. It looked very intricate and beautiful. But a watch, being a useful tool, should be correctly visible.

Yes, that´s the reason why I am so thankful being able to test the 5159G in real life.

 By: MTR : January 22nd, 2020-07:44
It is really beautiful and high sophisticated and 100% PP. But as a simple time telling tool it has not convinced me. Perhaps if you are sitting at the back of a RR and being chauffeured while admiring this piece of art. But not if you are using it during...

I fully understand your first point, Peter!

 By: MTR : January 24th, 2020-09:49
But I think the look of the 5159G has a lot of charme. It´s a beautiful watch. But not practical enough for me, too.

I try to remember my knowledge about

Marc Aurel an the Stoa.

LOL!!

100,00 years.

come on Thomas...Go for it !

 By: mahesh : January 20th, 2020-22:46
it is my personal fav in current PP catalog. Big congratulations !! Best, mahesh.,

Dear Mahesh,

 By: MTR : January 21st, 2020-06:23
this is not really helpful since it is also my favourite PP. Grrrrr.

Yes I know. [nt]

 By: MTR : January 22nd, 2020-07:44

Too busy, crowded, cramped dial ... no offence to proud owners!

By: COUNT DE MONET : January 21st, 2020-10:31
Saw it in the window and was quite disappointed how cramped the dial was. The numbers are too many and too big on the dial. Patek tried here to make it as legible as possible and lost it. It does not look at all like a classic watch, clearly a modern watc...

Maybe other variations will look better

By: COUNT DE MONET : January 21st, 2020-23:24
The first AC from Patek does also look cramped but in some variations it works.

Interesting, I haven't seen it in the metal but I like the dial. [nt]

 By: =RWK= : January 21st, 2020-20:42
What I don't like about these models is the change from a 24 h sub dial to the colored dot that changes at 06 & 18 h. This needs to be change to 00 & 12 so you know which 12 hour cycle the watch is displaying.

That 24h porthole is a detail that I like

By: COUNT DE MONET : January 21st, 2020-23:22
I do not like a 24h display as it makes one time display obselete. I know it is for an easier setting but still. The portholes and the big day and month display were ment to make the watch more legible but the luminosa filled big numerals do not blend in....

I wonder.....

 By: baufoam : January 22nd, 2020-07:45
At this point, the 5320g has been on the market for 3 years. I wonder if it is a “Big Seller” for Patek Philippe? When the 5320g first came on the scene, I remember it being very controversial. Many people in our community found serious fault with the wat...

I think, but don't really know, the 5320 does well

By: COUNT DE MONET : January 22nd, 2020-08:17
Best way to check this is to see its resale value. Don't get me wrong: a 5320 is surely a great watch but one or two things are not to my taste.

Interesting.

 By: MTR : January 22nd, 2020-08:41
I asked my AD today. It seems that it might be easier to get a 5320G than some other models. But he also had a 5159G and 5159R in stock.

There is no right or wrong in this case.

 By: MTR : January 22nd, 2020-07:47
I had a complete different feeling when I had it on my wrist. Very well made and very clear yet with a nostalgic touch. Is this design timeless? We will see... I like the 5159G very much. It is a beuatiful watch wiet 100% PP DNA. But the time was not easy...

I found the 5320 a tad too big at 40mm

 By: watch-er : January 22nd, 2020-18:49
lots of open real estate on the dial. If you love it get it. I would frankly wait on the next generation from this really neat movement. Maybe less retro and less lume.

Practical reasons?

 By: MTR : January 24th, 2020-17:22
I also had some lume on my 5146G and found it very helpful. Best Thomas

Yes, I will take my time.

 By: MTR : January 24th, 2020-05:09
It´s a lot of money, and I want to be 100% sure. I really wear each of my watches and don´t see them as simple "investment objects". So each acquisition has a special value for me. HAGWE Thomas

Perfect!

 By: MTR : January 24th, 2020-09:47
We should never buy a watch we didn´t see live or had the chance to try personally. I have made this experience very often: I fell in love with a watch from the official pictures and so reading everything about it I was able to find, and when I finally wa...

Wow!

By: Costa (aka Connie) : January 24th, 2020-13:02
Would not have predicted that!
