Oh my word!

Awesome watch! I didn't know you had one of these puppies!

Thanks, and I'm sure that if I were able to take decent pictures, you'd like it even more! ;-) The dial is wood marquetry and you can literally see the slivers of wood with a loupe...

 By: FabR : October 30th, 2020-10:51
Here's my "best" attempt at a macro shot of it (but one day I need to hand it to our friends Jocke in Sweden or Mike H in Paris to do it some justice! ;-)) ...

Incredible and congratulations!

 By: patrick_y : October 30th, 2020-14:25
These wood marquetry pieces are only made by one or two master craftsmen in the world. Definitely a very rare and very finite art. Much rarer than enamel!

Ahh! I stand corrected. I was only aware of the one at Patek and his apprentice.

Incredible. Just incredible work.

That's true! I've even seen a Cartier with wood marquetry.

My memory is getting a bit stiffer, must be getting old!

VoilΓ . Don't worry Patrick, we're all getting old but maybe science and technology will help us all live a bit longer...

 By: holdemchamp1225 : October 31st, 2020-12:31
I've read that someone born in this generation will be expected to live to 200 years old with the advancement of medical science and technology which is BEYOND belief but uber cool as well. Let's hope the quality of life is also high as one gets older as ...

+1! Wouldn't want to run out of money at 150 years of age!

Wealth management would become a bigger industry probably!

Very pretty girlfriend!

And the watch looks great too!

Correct, in fact for the past many years Jerome Bouttecon has been the *only* artisan authorized by Patek to create these incredible dials, they are frankly masterpieces...

 By: FabR : October 30th, 2020-16:39
Monsieur Bouttecon is pretty universally recognized as the top wood marquetry artist, so I got very lucky to be allocated one of these by Patek...Of course, the production is incredibly limited (even lower than the enamel dials), but every year we usually...

Very cool indeed! And a very special piece. It's in the right hands!

 By: patrick_y : October 31st, 2020-11:49
When I visited Sorrento, Italy, I noticed there was a lot of this wood engraving detail, marquetry, and inlays. I wonder if one day the Sorrento region can produce a craftsman who will one day be able to make wristwatch dials? Maybe!

I'm not picky. I'll go nearly anywhere. Have bags. Will travel.

Good food is probably a requirement!

As soon as the world reopens, if you travel to Italy you should let me know and it will our pleasure to host you β€” I’m planning to be back again on this beach all of next May thru August!😎

 By: FabR : November 1st, 2020-03:48
Speaking of good food, this is the restaurant on the bottom of the dial, and above is Boccadasse seen at night from the restaurant ...

Thanks, hard to find a watch with more meaning to me (my hometown, my favorite brand, and my favorite techniques all miraculously coming together in this piece! :-)

 By: FabR : November 1st, 2020-05:50
And no, I just knew a little earlier than some Italian themes were due in 2018, but I had no input whatsoever in the process...and when one of the three themes was Boccadasse we were all genuinely shocked! Incredibly happy and honored they decided to give...

Yes and the watch has been perfectly allocated in my opinion

The chance that this will happen with me is close to zero. Norway not a big enough market I would have to get a commissioned piece (and I have feeling that is not going to happen) πŸ˜‚

That wouldn't be fair πŸ˜‚ it's really close to my home

This picture is from the top this summer: ...

I'd love to see you in your natural element of Genoa! That dial is amazing! Wow! A perfect copy of the locale!
