This hobby is no longer fun. I’ve sold almost all my pieces and just kept a few for daily wear. I’m out.

5711 just sold for 137,000 USD.......how.....

Mind boggling. I don't understand it at all. ...

If all the grey market dealers currently in possession of a 5711 to sell...

 By: Brandon Skinner : April 23rd, 2021-04:32
collectively chipped in $500 to buy this at auction, they could now sell their 5711 and kill it. Now of course this did not happen but it’s not a bad idea!

I concur.

Actually the final bid is not what the seller will get

Taxes and fees are always forgotten

It’s only business...

Some guys buy a model in order to make a profit, solicit Instagramers to promote it, raise the odds artificially on Chrono24 by recording very high acquisition prices in the watch collection section thanks to fake accounts to artificially inflate the odds...

There a few hyped pieces and brands that are increasingly inaccessible to collectors.

 By: Horo_Traveler : April 23rd, 2021-05:05
But there is a tremendous selection across brands at great value if one is focused more on horological interest than hype, resale depreciation, etc.

Agree 💯.

My thoughts too. Look beyond the hype i would say

Expected!

World is already crazy 😜 Curious to see how much 5711 green will trade for

A reflection of the utterly mad world we live in.

 By: Miles_151 : April 23rd, 2021-07:36
This is just another example of something making no logic or sense what so ever. The world has gone topsy-tervy as my gran would say. M.

It's all about the looks

finishing and complications no longer matter. Last days I had contact with a few collectors from UAE, Qatar, Saoudi Arabia etc You know what prices people pay for a Journe Elegante ( yes, cool look but quartz) 70.000 - 80.000 USD I could not believe it bu...

Bruno I wholeheartedly agree and I’m not sure people really get this (or understand it). It’s fashion, having the “it” item, fear or missing out etc.

 By: Jay (Eire) : April 23rd, 2021-12:18
These prices, and prices for specific references with more intrinsic horological value too, are driven by said piece being the thing to have. RM’s entire resale market is driven by this. The 5711, 15202, Daytona etc markets are being driven by this. Journ...

And as a side note

I never understood that vintage market. Never liked nor wanted a Paul Newman How many of these were made? Thousands? Why would 150 K 300K and even sometimes 1 million be more acceptable? Honestly, give me 130k and let me choose between a just discontinued...

If people who made a "killin" from the current crazy cryto or wall street bets stock....become millionaires or billionaires in a year or less....

 By: Clueless_Collector : April 23rd, 2021-16:29
This $100K is nothing and fits the hype lifestyle....just imagine if I put $100K when Bitcoin was $4000 (or even less, $1) and its now $50000, I can imagine myself buying whatever grail watches that I cannot or never get and want to get, like a Grand Comp...

Well, mad as it is, I know someone who just paid close to this for a 5711

 By: rnaden : April 23rd, 2021-11:23
And he thinks it was a good buy since he didn’t have to buy a few other watches that he didn’t want and did not have to wait even if he had done that. I think it’s also these crazy bundling nonsense that makes many accept the idea of paying a premium. ...

It really is strange why anyone would pay this price.

By: Time to watch : April 23rd, 2021-12:00
I find myself wondering why people pay perpetual calendar prices for time only or time date watches. Yes it’s a more casual world and people don’t dress up like they used too but maybe it’s something else. Maybe these new watch buyers are willing to pay a...

free market and the bidders have spoken at this moment. Let’s agree that 5711/1A is an iconic piece and appreciate its beauty for what it is. If someone is willing to pay this price, then let this person be the rightful owner.
