Patek with 315 movement randomly stops

I have a Patek Philippe with the 315 movement. It seems that the watch works just fine as long as it is not in motion (or subject to only very limited motion) and sufficiently wound. If the watch is subject to enough motion—I’m talking basic arm movements...

It may just be a loose part

Maybe even a loose screw inside. I would stop wearing and take it to a watchmaker to open and a examine.

My watch with cal 324 was ''on & off'' for a few months

before it completely stopped. No winding/movement could make the watch run more than or a few seconds. Seems 'common' for Patek to stop all of the sudden even while wearing on the wrist. They said it could be dry inside. Because of pandemic, I could not b...

5059 (so around 20 years old) - I am sending it in to Patek to get serviced

Someone suggested to me that the click might be getting stuck on open.

I like the loose screw theory or similar

Here's what happens when something comes apart inside your watch. This can cause occasional stopping, or great damage, depending on where the parts end up. First a TUDOR whose movement hold-down plate and screw came out and drifted around. This one wasn't...

Either way, I’m sending it off to Patek to get repaired/serviced. Frustrating, but I’ve seen discussions of this issue with 315 and 324 movements. I have a Patek with a 240 and it seems much more solid compared to the 315/324.

Yes true, I heard cal 240 is more robust

Will take into consideration if (one day) I buy another Patek. Good luck!

In 1998…..

I bought my first Patek Philippe, a reference 5056, and it is an excellent watch. After I had owned it for a few weeks it stopped running. It was sent to Henri Stern in NYC ( still under warranty) and a short time later it was returned to me in perfect wo...

This is a 5059 from the early 2000s. I have seen quite a bit of similar discussions about the 315 movement in both 5056 and I believe aquanauts having this issue.
