There's always been something special with a "dress-up Day" Chrono, at least for me

DeBethune

The golden dial is classy. It’s a chronograph which do not scream it’s a chronograph. Other DeBethune watches are very good designs, so this brand do a good job for me. Colleague Voutilainen the same.

Both get my nods ! The DB dial is very clean and elegant and the 5170 is simply ...

classy ! Since this is a Patek forum and I am the co-moderator, the 5170 gets a bigger nod ! 😇

Lol

Thanks for allowing my partially non-patek here ; )

I think the comparo is interesting...

R vs R Opaline vs Radial Guilloche'd Rose Gold Dial Applied Breguet vs Blue Printed (but 3d somehow) Arabics Manual (better winding feel) vs Manual In house 4hz Patek chrono vs THA monopusher movement from a few wannabes (Journe / V Halter / Flaggiolet) B...

Thanks for a really good analysis! In the end my vote is for the Patek for a number of details I like better (the dial, in house, applied indices and a generally higher level of sophistication, etc...)

However, it’s a great looking DB that I wasn’t even familiar with in this declination (unique piece?), so this is a totally legitimate competition...It might be interesting to see if the feedback you receive will be any different on the Independent Forum😉...

The De Bethune, here. [nt]

Thank you, sir.... 4-2 in favor of the Patek at present

 By: chap : October 5th, 2020-06:31
(though sounds like some may simply not be as familiar with the DB) ...

No contest! :-)

 By: sham1 : October 5th, 2020-06:33
The De Bethune for sure. The Patek 5170G would have given the De Bethune a closer fight with its pulsometer scale but the 5170R is quite plain by comparison. And I am a Patek fan by the way but this is one of the nicest looking De Bethunes I have laid my ...

DB for me please 🤗

But both stunning

De Bethune, easily

 By: openworked : October 5th, 2020-09:56
The hand guilloche on the dial itself makes it no contest. If it's the re-release of the DB8 then the movement is no contest either.

Appreciate that De Bethune is cutting edge independent, however IMO the 5170R wins

Entirely personal decision since the DB is gorgeous and a technical one-pusher marvel, and I also appreciate the 3D-like numerals on the DB dial... but the Patek dress chrono sings to me. Best, Robert

Have appreciated all the comments

And yet here we are - at a 7-7 deadlock......

I will break it (for now). The 5170 for me.

The Patek has more oomph movement wise, and the DBT is rather more quirky. I’ll go classic this time. Cheers, John

I went G with black dial, which really is a super utilitarian watch that works well with evening wear as well as jeans. BR M

I would agree

The black dialed breguet’s is iconic. Had I not had another black dialed chrono I’d have likely gone that direction. But I basically never wear black shoes, and while I like the tan strap, black dial combo - a lot... the opaline dial works a lot better wi...

While the 5170 is classy and impeccably made, to me it is not one of the strongest PP manual chronos. I‘d take both the 5070 and 5172 over the 5170. The DB has equally strong design and excellent execution but in addition there‘s the originality of a piec...
