I’d like your opinions please, and thanks. My beloved AD called and said he’d received a 5172 patek, and if I want , he would trade even up for my 5990 nautilus. I’m thinking no. Thanks in advance . ...  

i believe the 5990 is harder to get in general than a 5172 ... So, unless you loooovve the 5172 ... just looking at chrono24 you can find 5172 with about 10k less than retail price .... so i guess the ad would make a good trade in this case

The current MSRP is roughly $41k for the 5712 vs. $55k for the 5990. The best solution would of course be to just purchase the 5712, if you have a chance, without giving up on this beauty... They would both fit nicely into the same collection ;-) Keep us ...

But personally, while I like the 5172, again I probably wouldn't permute a 5990 for it...😉👍

One would assume the trade is fair due to msrp of 5990 being lower than the 5172...but real secondary market prices on the 5990 is actually higher than the 5172. If I were to trade that in I would request for an allocation on a 5711 in addition to the 517...

Did you indicate that you would like a 5172 ? To a large extent, aside from the financial aspect, do you want the 5172 more than 5990 ? IMO this criteria on preference comes first and then the financial “negotiation” follows.

If PP can remove the two day-night indication boxes to the 3 and 9 aperture, it will look a lot cleaner and nicer. Now I always feel two moles on the face....
