Not sure ....

how to set the leap year as there is no indicator at all, compounded by the fact that one is even unsure which year the watch is in after a lapse of time. It will be a hassle having the watch sent back to Patek for resetting and not everyone is having the luxury of living near a Patek Salon or boutique. Though 3448 is without a doubt beautiful, 3450 is more practical between the two. I fully agree that 3940 is beautiful in its own right but again it lacks a second hand. Overall, 5050 is the winner here as those foreseeable issues do not exist at all and one is almost assured of its accuracy at all times.

Yellow Gold 5050J again...

 By: CL : August 29th, 2019-15:50
I really love retro looking watch in Yellow Gold case, especially when they have a silvery dial, Being wearing this everyday with my casual attire. Very elegant, especially after I change the strap to a glossy black with think and flat padding ...

I have some issue..

 By: CL : August 30th, 2019-06:44
I have issue with my neck. I kept looking downward on my wrist just to look at the dial. I really mean it and it does get annoying sometime. But I have no technical issue with the watch. Only the 1993-1995 5050 have some issues with the retrograde date bu...

You will never

get tired of looking at the clean and elegant dial, the combination of precious metal (yellow or rose) and the silvery dial bring out its different dimensions, unlike the 5059. Unassuming, even a non-Patek wearer will attest to its beauty and classic look...

I will urge all my close friends to get one ...

but for myself, I'm one of those who prefer to tru;y wear my watches. So, if I have variations, I will be confused. And personally, for such design, I prefer yellow gold.

++1

that will definitely look understated and casual.

I have tried them all...

 By: CL : August 30th, 2019-06:47
but for such retro/vintage vibe... a glossy black which will worn out in 3 months will look the best . I love an 'old', glossy flat strap.

You want the truth ? I don't like it...

I LOVE IT ! I am very traditional and I find this piece classy and versatile, actually a perfect daily wearer for a gentleman. Perfect keeper, wear it in the best of your health, Mike

I'm not traditional but

I love traditional watches . Personally, I rate the 3940 a 8/10, my 5050 a 9/10 but the ultimate 12/10 is the 3448. 3448 or 3450 is beyond perfection.

Ah yes of course...

Monsieur is a connoisseur ! If you open the discussion with me about the Wonder Watch... it has been an out of reach dream for over 20 years... until the dream becomes true 😉 ...

You just hijack my post with wonder watch...

 By: CL : August 30th, 2019-09:45
now my watch doesn't look wonderful anymore...haha. Love 3448!!! So nice so very nice... I give myself a good reason to choose 5050 over 3448. I won't be able to wear wonder watch on a daily basis. It is too precious for daily wear. I will think of any ex...

No hijack don’t worry 😉

I don’t want to be naughty but I have a solution to your problem : get the Wonder Watch but do also keep or get some other equally nice toys, and you will switch from one to the other with pleasure 🤣🤣. As for the leap year there is nothing on earth easier...

To be honest...

 By: CL : August 30th, 2019-10:56
I do plan to get the 3448 or 3450 one day So, how does one set the leap year for the 3448 when there is no indicator? If I stop wearing for a period of time, how will I know if I'm on the right year? Thanks.

Very easy actually...

 By: Mike H : August 30th, 2019-13:57
I go to the PP Salon and they adjust it for me. Then I either wear it or put it on a winder in the safe. The batteries are strong enough for going one year and it case it would stop (which never happened yet because I change the batteries every 6 months) ...

Oh... not that easy then.

 By: CL : August 30th, 2019-17:48
So, for 3448 , I can't set the leap time myself an have to be set by Patek Salon? And which Patek Salon will that be? Only the Geneva one or the NYC one will do too? I didn't know that it has to be set by Patek itself, very interesting. So for those who d...

Then again...

 By: CL : August 30th, 2019-18:38
for such a beautiful watch, one will be wearing it so often that it is impossible difficult to keep it off the wrist. Maybe you can ask the service watchmaker to show you how they set the leap year and you can possibly do it yourself at home. For example,...

My Verdict...

 By: CL : August 31st, 2019-07:10
I NEED to have a 3448!!! It's driving me crazy...haha If possible, can you tell me how does one seek out for a 'good' 3448? Meaning what should I look out for in term of condition and the various series... Maybe you can pm me

That is one of the best looking perpetuals from PP that I have ever seen.

Definitely like the choice of yellow gold for this one.

Only second to 3448, imho.

 By: CL : August 30th, 2019-09:46
But value wise (as in way cheaper than 3448 or 3450), it is the best

5050 is more user friendly ...

 By: dmas : August 30th, 2019-10:21
than 3448 as it has a leap year indicator and seconds hand plus a choice of transparent case-back, and the 3450 has a leap year indicator but without the seconds hand. Overall, relatively speaking 5050 is a value for money daily wearer among the three exq...

Agree that it is better suited for daily wear...

 By: CL : August 30th, 2019-10:59
Do you know how one set the leap year for 3448 when it doesn't have any indicator? And yes, you just mention an important point... I need the second hand. I love 3940 but it bothers me when I can't tell right away if the watch is functioning as nothing is...

Not sure ....

I think...

the adjustment of 3448 should not be that difficult. The case is easily taken off and I'm sure we will be able o learn how to set it. Like what Mike said, he placed it on the winder and keep it moving. It can be a beautiful sight when one place the winder...

If possible, can you post a side picture of it? I'd love to see the side profile of the case and how thick it is.

I don't have any picture of that...

 By: CL : August 30th, 2019-18:40
It is around 11.5mm if you include the domed crystal. It is thick if you compare to 3940 but it is thin if you compare to 5959 or 3448, which are both around 13.5mm. I will try post one tomorrow.

The side profile...
