No technical reason

Apparently Patek just wanted the platinum version to remain purely traditional in this respect. That said, it would have saved me a world of hassle if Patek had given these a display back. Two years ago I bought what I thought was a 2006-vintage 3940P from a well-known dealer advertising a “full kit.” The papers matched the model, but not the serial number on the movement; apparently the dealer hadn’t bothered to open the case to verify the match. A display back would have shown what I found out too late: the watch had no legitimate papers. https://www.watchprosite.com/patek-philippe/3940-dial-question-/11.1432476.13253236/

would anyone know if the closed case back of the 3940p can be replaced by an opened case back and worn opened to show the rotor etc? Or is it sealed completely ? Thanks Kev

Don't think they made a display back for 3940P ... The 3940G's display back ...

is the main reason for people opting for 3940G instead of 3940P. You could probably replace the solid P case back with a G display back though. Heresy if you ask me...

Fair enough. Thanks !
