Thanks :-) I'm not sure I would be able to work outside of academia (with bosses, 12-month years, etc.), but many mathematicians do, and I'm sure it can be rewarding.

My own PhD student who graduated last year working on these very things on partitions (a bright guy, he finished at age 23!) did in fact move to investment banking, and so far he sounds very happy. Most importantly, he recently texted me lthat his girlfri...
