In these challenging times how about a pleasant survey diversion - who owns a Patek perpetual chrono and when and why did you choose yours?

 By: patekova : March 27th, 2020-07:17
I will be happy to start. For quite some time I have wanted to add a round PPC to enhance and possibly complete my collection. I pondered which model to get. 1518 and 2499 are extraordinary but were eliminated as possibilities. For me, too expensive and n...

I love this watch. I purchased the 5270R for the in-house movement!

I love how the rose gold complements the beautiful dial. ...

3970j !

 By: baufoam : March 27th, 2020-08:31
I love the 3970j because of its lineage -DNA (connection) to the great Patek Philippe designs of the past. The size of the 3970 also appeals to me. It’s certainly a “small” watch given today’s standards, but at 36mm it just feels “vintage”.Its really a gr...

I have the same and love it.

Thank you very much.

Going on 2 years of ownership. The watch is flawless. Keeps great time. Be well CB

Hi Patekova, HUGE congrats on getting this Grand Complication icon !

 By: GLau : March 27th, 2020-08:34
The color contrast and dial lay-out is simply superb ! The complications are also great ! 👍

Great post my friend.

 By: Miles_151 : March 27th, 2020-11:04
For me the PCC was the watch that got me so spell bound by Patek. I like you loved the earlier models but came into it at the end of the 3970 run when the earlier models were out of my reach. I remember so badly wanting a 3970r but for me the proportions ...

Thank you Miles for your detailed and extremely interesting reply! Also for the beautiful photos. Your London Edition is for me

 By: patekova : March 27th, 2020-11:16
as good as it goes. It is absolute perfection !!!!!!!!!!!! Stay well! Best, Patekova

Thank you.

 By: Miles_151 : March 27th, 2020-11:45
The 5970 size, dial and case are just perfection. Not to mention the refinished Lemania movement. I’d love to see a wrist shot on you my friend from further away. I also love the white Chrono hand on the 5970p. Makes such a big impact. M.

It is a clear simple meaningful expression. Those are the best in life. It struck me the second I read it. I have never read it before. Well done. CB

God bless you.

Wait, am I reading this correctly....

 By: pejp : April 12th, 2020-21:02
...you have 3 x 5970???

 By: Mikesr  : March 27th, 2020-14:31
5270 white grey dial. In service because AD told me to buy a winder for it. Over wound it . Sucks, won’t have it back for months I’m sure. White gold 014 I think. No chin

Here is mine

Hi, Patekova, I got my first patek perpetual chronograph back in Jun 2015, which the blue dial 5270G-019.

 By: joenghenry : March 27th, 2020-18:36
The reason of getting this is because patek perpetual chronograph has always been my grail, combining the two complications that fascinate me the most. Besides the blue dial is truly beautiful. Certainly I would like to have the 5970 if I could, but I sta...

Thanks Henry for your reply. Beautiful watch and beautiful photo. The blue dial, white metal, no chin combination is very appealing.

 By: patekova : March 28th, 2020-04:50
One of the features I like about 5270, is that the registers at 3 and 9 each only measure one function - constant seconds and elapsed chrono minutes. Best, Patekova

Perhaps my favorite complicated watch ever. Thank you for sharing it with us, fabios.

The only PCC in my collection. Hopefully, I can add more to my collection in the near future!

To me, a PCC is a must have in any collectors’ collection! The picture explains it all! ...

Don't forget the 5004!

 By: amanico : March 30th, 2020-01:33
The double pliers of its rattrapante mechanism are to die for... But if I had to get only one, the 5970P would be the best compromise for me in terms of case shape and size, and dial. As I don't think I could ever find my all time favorite, the 5970G " Sa...

Definitively...

 By: lascases : April 3rd, 2020-10:24
5004 is a league of its own. While one can discuss about 3970/5970 a 5004 is in a different orbit

I've seen the 3970 decades ago and fell in love immediately but......

 By: Watchlover42 : March 31st, 2020-13:42
....could not even imagine how people can spend such an amount of money on a watch. It was at the time my passion for watches began to grow. In 2015 I sold a bunch of watches and bought exactly this rosegold 3970 I've seen so many years before. Behind the...

Beautiful watch! Beautiful images! 1st PPC I ever bought was a 3970 RG. Enjoyed it for many years. I felt unbelievably fortunate to own such an amazing watch. [nt]

 By: patekova : March 31st, 2020-13:51
Perhaps just semantics, but I wouldn’t describe it as “underrated”. But definitely “undervalued”. Arguably every bit as good as 5970, but much less expensive.

3970 vs 5970

 By: lascases : April 1st, 2020-00:43
Personally, I never quite understood why many people could prefer a 5970 over a 3970.... The dial of the 5970 might feel a bit „bloated“ if compared to the 3970. It might feel a bit like they tried hard to enlarge it beyond its natural proportions (which ...

You make a very strong and detailed argument in favor of why 3970 might be a better choice in the 3970 vs. 5970 debate.

 By: patekova : April 1st, 2020-04:53
I wonder how other forum members feel about it. Would make for an interesting separate discussion. Best, Patekova

Isn't it finally a matter of taste and in this case wristsize?

 By: Watchlover42 : April 1st, 2020-12:21
For my 17,5cm wrist the 3970 is perfect. But with 20cm and more this watch might not really be the best choice.

Backing up my arguments with images!

a grand complication plus Patek bracelet, is reserved for “unique” pieces for special clients. (Of course they also did this with 5204 RG). Each of your 5270s are for me totally different in character - like 3 different references! Congratulation on ownin...

PCC is where my heart is!!

 By: mr.br : April 2nd, 2020-05:14
I love the 2499, 5004, 3970, 5970. However, the 3970 was the first I purchsed and has always been special to me. Love the pump pushers and the simplicity. I like the vintage look and feel, and the size is just perfect for a dressier watch. ...

Wow - not something you see every day

 By: Spartacus : April 12th, 2020-18:07
A 2nd series 3970G isn't very common, let alone the 3970P. I agree with everything you wrote about the 3970. For me, next to the 2499, it's my favorite PCC. Enjoy!

My second series 3970R

 By: Spartacus : April 18th, 2020-18:44
For me, the 2499 is the pinnacle of design of the Patek PPCs, in particular the 3rd series sans tachymeter. That makes the 3970 2nd series the best successor to it, IMO. I am very fortunate to own a beautiful rose gold version. It's the perfect style and ...

Beautiful watch and thanks for the reply! If I were to buy a 2499 the one I would pick would be 3rd series. Relatively (compared to 1st

 By: patekova : April 18th, 2020-18:59
and 2d series) reasonable in price and incredible in every way. Also agree that 2d (and 1st) series 3970 is the true and aesthetically logical successor to the legendary 2499. Enjoy your great watch! Best, Patekova

Thank you, Patekova

In reality, we are discussing which supermodel we find most attractive; we're all fortunate to own these and much "lesser" timepieces. I still can't believe I own such a beautiful piece of mechanical art a little piece of Patek's horological history. Wish...

Hi Spartacus, this is very elegant. Reopening this thread.

 By: BuffaloWatch : May 6th, 2020-06:00
Does your model have the solid caseback? Assuming it does, as was the norm, do you miss not seeing the movement or is it a good trade-off to see those beautiful hands and markers of the second series?

Both case backs!

 By: Spartacus : May 9th, 2020-18:01
I don't have a good photo of the beautiful movement, but I am fortunate that the previous owner secured a sapphire back.

 By: p.boxster : May 9th, 2020-09:57
For me, a Patek PCC was always a grail and must-have for a collection. I started with dreaming of the 3970 when it was actual and even more the 5970. When the 5270 was announced new, I was very thrilled about the new movement which is - at least technical...
