For me, the more intimate the item the more likely I am to buy something new. Clothes must absolutely be new! A house does not need to be new as you can gut the interior. Handbags , wallets, sunglasses must all be new without exception. Whereas buying a new yacht or boat is probably a mistake unless you just have to have it exactly your way. I am willing to buy a used car if it is for utilitarian purposes… But a sports car unless it is vintage must always be new as there is no way to tell how it has been driven or maintained. That brings us to wrist watches. I try to keep my possessions in perfect shape when I can and I am very sensitive to any kind of blemishes. I like the idea that once that watch left the factory it went directly to me and I can vouch for the care and maintenance. If I am wearing it on my person I prefer it to be new… Personally I would rather have one new watch then three used ones but to each his own. I know it’s utterly cosmetic and fake but the personal experience does matter to me and although it is a superficial relationship I think the relationship with a dealer i.e. in my case the Omega boutique still has value.

New and used, and am not averse to either. As long as the watch is something I like or desire and if the money being asked is reasonable and I personally consider to be “fair value”. One thing I won’t do is to pay a premium on any watch.
