If you live in India you must also factor in the local used market which from what I understand is not as efficient as other local markets (i.e. it's much harder to sell a used watch in India then say, the US)... also

I would ask the AD how much he would buy back the Moser for (or if his shop won't do it, he can most certainly point you to someone that does). This will give you the best indication of the secondary market for the particular piece in mind.

Hi need some information!!

Hi all I know the post is out of context but wanted the opinion of your experience and didn’t know where else to post I have the option of getting a few of the sought after pieces of Patek/Rolex if I buy a h moser cie from my AD/dealer. The catch however ...

Not sure I understand the question: your AD is asking you to buy a Moser at MSRP to offer you a few of what?

5711? 5131? 6300?? How many 100k or perhaps millions does he want? You may still be able to help your AD, but you need to call an ambulance right away 😉

Agree

You need to be specific. If you calc the loss from the Moser and get a sought after Patek now, you might make back the gain on paper.

From my experience

H Moser do not hold their value well and when I say this I mean, do expect to lose 40 to 50 percent of the RRP on resale. I know in the Far East, discounts of 25 to 30% from the AD are normal so I would be very careful before buying a H Moser at RRP even ...

Almost all watches get a price cut upon resale.

Even for Rolex, AP and PP, only a few models hold value. If the AD is dumping you that Moser, it means nobody seems to want it. Would be hard for you to sell it as well.

I would have to disagree

There are many cases where a Moser watch has sold above list price at Christies, Sotheby's, etc... Sure, a used watch with no box or papers or service history can be had for a lower price, but that is because you have to factor in the cost of service, buy...

Perhaps the odd Moser

 By: sham1 : March 29th, 2019-06:26
but I have sold my limited edition fume dial Moser to a fellow purist quite recently and even after having bought the watch at 25 percent below RRP, I still sold the watch at a further 20% discount ie a total of 45% below RRP. I think if you look at websi...

One auth dealer 'made fun' of my 5711 saying I just cared about trend (I bought 5711 when it was still at half the price it is now)

 By: 中野れい : March 28th, 2019-21:15
he's advicing me 5270 but I got no budget of course...BUT later I heard he will put his customers on waiting list for 5711 (just the privilige for waiting list, no guarantee) if the customer buys ard USD 150K from him ) I really dislike this kind of pract...

Just do the math...

 By: vitalsigns : March 28th, 2019-21:47
Factor in at least a 50% loss on the Moser and see if buying the PP and Rolex makes sense had you paid that 50% as additional purchase price for the PP and Rolex (which is in effect what you’re doing). You can be the judge of whether that makes sense econ...

As Sham mentioned above...

Moser's go for significant discount from AD's in the Far East. So if you don't intend on keeping the Moser, whatever hit that you are taking would be the premium you pay for the Rolex//Patek. In the end, we would need more details on the pieces that the A...

Fully agree with you my friend .

I don't like that kind of practice from any AD or Shop . Stay away i would say .

Exactly! (nt)

U all for the extremely pertinent advice. Most of u are right that this kind of practise needs to be deprecated. But what do u do in these times?? To be more specific the dealer is giving me the Pepsi and the hulk as of now at retail price if I buy a mose...

I do feel sorry for H Moser

 By: sham1 : March 29th, 2019-02:47
Great watches with superbs dials and high quality movements but the dealer has to resort to underhand sales tactics to move them.

With the price of 2x for Moser, how does that 2x figure ...

compare to the retail price for this Moser ?

In economics, the money has to come from somewhere.

I am not as informed as the watch dealer is, in knowing the market value of the watches. We have an information disparity here. If he put forward a deal like this, it means that he's better off by selling you the Moser and the Pepsi as a package, then sel...

It’s all in the math.

 By: Bill : March 29th, 2019-08:00
I think you have some very solid answers. 1- Is it normal for an AD to ask its customers to buy other watches to get access to highly demanded watches. Maybe not so common but a practice that is seen. 2- is it a good idea to buy a Moser at full retail pri...

Thank u all

Some serious insight. Will try and do the math and figure out.

I own two Mosers, both bought at deep discounts

and I believe it is VERY common practice for the independant AD to wheel and deal more than others, but it is the same same with the new AP business model, I get the small AD’s doing what they have to but when the big boys do this I don’t want to particip...
