I still prefer the no date model ref 3738 - may be a tough small but I prefer the simplicity of the full blue dial

215 vs 240...

I think most will choose the 240 vs the smallish 215? Itโ€™s a pity I cannot see the micro rotor on the Golden Ellipse but again the dial is where we see most of the time. The design of these 2 are very successful imho. Icons never gets old...love these 2 d...

What people are not aware of: the Ellipse is thinner than the manual 5196 P

... albeit being an auto powered watch. The solid caseback suits the Ellipse better, even if it hides the 240.

7.68mm vs 5.9mm, wow I didnโ€™t even pay attention ....

Since both are thin already...Thanks Count for the details ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป

Needles to say that I know 5.9 mm of the heart ๐Ÿ˜ [nt]

Rolex 3135 is 6 mm of height ... and that is just the movement! At Patek you get a complete watch of that height.

I know you are :) Do you think there is compromise on the power reserve?

Seems the trend is towards 70hrs or more, for over the weekend.

really love both [nt]

was featured in the recent PP magazine....good taste ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป It comes with a date which is unique and with this featured article, I guessed itโ€™ll be too late to chase for. ...

Maybe there is a challenge putting a sapphire crystal case back on the shape of this GE case?

 By: Clueless_Collector : October 4th, 2020-13:49
It may not be able to showcase it well I guess.

For sure...

IMHO the 5196P is Patek's most attractive Calatrava model.

+1! [nt]

Here you go...

...

Yes, I think the designer(s) did a great job in this model.

Other colors only have stock indexes so this is a challenge.

Two classy and classic Pateks !

Have never seen an ellipse in the metal and wonder how it would sit on my wrist.

Thanks Gordan...yes both iconic imho...

The GE should be easy to see (you know why) so go test it out. It's nice in a mysterious way, can't describe.

Congrats for these 2 beauties

I own exact these two models as well and wear them with a lot of pleasure. Both watches do for me represent two different approaches to watch design. 5196P with a very classical case design and old-school Breguet numerals, but a modern twist with its 37 m...

Oh wow, what a nice coincidence, and apologize or the tardy response....wasnโ€™t aware there is a new unanswered post.

Nice duo, and I should try the 5738R in casual like you said. Thanks for the info. Congrats and enjoy!
