I made a video last week that perfectly applies in this case

My opinion is always to trade 4 for 1 if the 1 is what is catching your eye

Should I trade my four watch collection for a Patek 5270/1R?

 By: @Patek_Ambassador : January 27th, 2020-19:04
Purists, I have a modest timepiece collection consisting of a 5170J manual 30-Minute chronograph in yellow gold, 5130R world time in rose gold, 5905P annual calendar 1-hour Chronograph, and an AP Royal Oak stainless steel blue dial 15400. These four watch...

My brief answer would be “NO”

 By: Bounce781 : January 27th, 2020-19:09
1 watch ain’t enough and the joy of owning one will be outweighed by the regret of letting go of 4. That’s how I would feel but good luck with your decision. Either way you’ll have spectacular watches 😜

"This, to me, is a true grail"

 By: 中野れい : January 27th, 2020-19:09
If I were you, I would do it! No doubt as you already know what you want. Good luck

+1 [nt]

That 5270R ...

 By: Chromatic Fugue : January 27th, 2020-19:16
Is a big watch and packs a lot of bling with that integrated bracelet. You should ask yourself whether you’ll miss having other, quieter watches to mix it up with.

I vote “No”

 By: NickO : January 27th, 2020-19:25
My thoughts on a rose gold bracelet watch have shifted over the years. I used to love them, owned a few, but today I find them to be a little nouveau riche and gaudy. I just don’t see them as particularly sophisticated. Now, I love the 5270G on strap whic...

To me, there is too much cost imbedded in the bracelet.

 By: vitalsigns : January 27th, 2020-19:55
But I’ve always felt that way about precious metal bracelets. The bracelet alone costs one or one and one-half of your Pateks, making the trade not worth it to me. The Patek PCC is really nice, but only the watch on a strap is worth it IMO.

You’re right. Not an enormous premium.

 By: vitalsigns : January 27th, 2020-20:41
And my views probably reflect my preference for straps and more stealthy pieces. I’d still have a hard time giving up those 4 for one less versatile Patek PCC. Maybe if it was a white gold 5970 on a strap (my personal aspirational but not entirely out of ...

If you love it do it while you have the chance

 By: mpg13 : January 27th, 2020-20:00
It won't take long untill you can add a steel sport watch to your collection again if you choose to do so.

I agree

 By: Brandon Skinner : January 27th, 2020-22:06
My feeling is he'll find new a steel sport before summer🌞

Or, keep the RO and give him money instead.

 By: radone : January 27th, 2020-22:47
This way, you have the best of both worlds.

This is just my “clueless” observation and opinion....

 By: Clueless_Collector : January 27th, 2020-20:04
From your recent acquisition and posts about Patek Philippe watches, you’ve been very eager to add more Pateks this and that, and keep moving up as if your current ones are not heavyweight enough. This is normal, as we will always hope to get that grail w...

i vote no (but not really from a place of much first hand experience!)

 By: Francoamerican : January 27th, 2020-20:05
1. i don't know if you have had experience with one piece for a long period of time but variety in wear makes me appreciate the other pieces. 2. wearing a "small house" on your wrist seems stressful if it's your only piece 3. you'd be in more scenarios wh...

I would advise no...

 By: KonaJ : January 27th, 2020-20:12
After I bought my 5270/1R I, like you, was in love with it and wore it solely for at least a month. It does stick out and I received many compliments. I still love the watch but I am now careful when and where I ware it because it does draw attention. I a...

+1, that was going to be the essence of my comment as well. A 5270/1R would no doubt be an excellent upgrade and an outstanding piece for a one-watch collection...

 By: FabR : January 27th, 2020-21:09
But only at the condition to really become a daily wear going forward -- which implies both a great versatility of the watch and virtually no safety concerns in all of the OP's activities. Otherwise, I agree it should only be part of a larger collection ;...

If you love it...

 By: mdg : January 27th, 2020-21:21
go for it. Life is too damned short. You can always pick up a beater Omega for sport duty sometime down the road for small $.

A rare opportunity

 By: Park : January 27th, 2020-21:27
I don't think it often occurs that one can trade all of one's watches for exactly the one grail one seeks. If I were confident that the 5270R would do it for me on a long term basis, I'd go for it. Park

I would have to echo many of the members to say NO.

 By: Bill : January 27th, 2020-21:54
Your collection is a curated selection of exquisite watches. There is so much to enjoy vs have one piece that you may be even worried about weary on a daily basis. Unless you feel that you will be happy to wear the watch as a daily wearer which is persona...

Yes, I would trade

 By: drphileasfogg : January 27th, 2020-21:54
No watches in your current collection would be difficult to find if you feel the need to own one of them again. I would do the trade and buy an other luxury sport watch later on.

Only you can answer this. But my response would be NO.

 By: Miles_151 : January 27th, 2020-23:44
There is no watch in the world that would make me sell all my watches. There is no such thing as a grail in my mind as they are all grails at a point in time. This is what makes us collectors and why we need more watches. And for me it would certainly not...

If I were you.

 By: Miles_151 : January 28th, 2020-01:03
And after looking at your wrist shots and the size of your wrist and existing watches I would buy a 5970r and keep one or 2 of your collection. This would make far more sense to me. M.

I'm in the No camp.

 By: mrds : January 27th, 2020-23:52
As you noted, variety is the spice in life. The one question you should answer to make a decision is, am I happy to wear my stunning grail every day of the week, week after week, at the office, in the garden, the restaurant and the pool? If you answer wit...

I think i would say No too .

 By: Watchonthewrists : January 28th, 2020-00:03
The thought to just own one or two watches would give me nightmares 😉. Also looking at your current collection i think you already own nice versions . But if you think you NEED that PP its your call after all 🤗

+1, 5970 for the three Pateks but keep the RO.

 By: trs : January 28th, 2020-01:01
I'd rather get a 5970 for the three Pateks and keep the RO. The 5270/1R is too blingy for a one watch collection in my view. Having seen how many Pateks the OP bought and sold over a very short period of time I'd be worried he'd want to upgrade again if h...

I have also considered reducing my collection to add a 5270 or 5970, but so far me decision is NO

 By: 1WatchMan : January 28th, 2020-00:30
The main reasons: - I do love a bit of variety - Security concerns: "losing" one of my current pieces would hurt, but losing a major piece would be a disaster for me. Good luck!

I would not do it.

 By: jlux : January 28th, 2020-01:08
Mainly because your other 4 watches are of superb quality and style.

Yes

 By: shafran : January 28th, 2020-01:50
You still have the gondola when you need a more subtle watch. That watch is a dream come true!

My vote is 'YES' if...

 By: CL : January 28th, 2020-02:25
It is a YES if you will wear this new piece like a daily watch, wearing it like what one should wear with a perpetual calendar piece. If that's what you plan to do, this is your grail piece that will spend many meaningful time with you. You can always cha...

I agree.

By: Costa (aka Connie) : January 28th, 2020-02:42
It’s a yes. Unbelievable watch. Wearing the same masterpiece every day would be an incredible joy. I would definitely do that. Platinum is the ultimate patek metal. It flies under the radar and feels great on your wrist. Only you know you’re wearing a sma...

YES!

 By: baufoam : January 28th, 2020-04:58
I am a big fan of “Quality over Quantity”. If that rose gold Patek speaks to your heart and you have the means to acquire it, then DO IT! Enjoy your life and enjoy your watch!

Sorry. I thought it was platinum

By: Costa (aka Connie) : January 28th, 2020-06:29
Rose gold is amazing. In this disposable world where all your possessions change from one month to the next ( think cars ,phones, computers, clothes etc) , it is meaningful to have a possession that is constant. This watch is timeless. Like good art. It wi...

For me, a watch should match the occasion

 By: Uncle Chico : January 28th, 2020-05:15
Your current collection covers all the bases plus has the added benefit of being under the radar to the general population. I wore a yellow gold Day/Date for a number of years but ultimately found it to be an attention magnet so I sold it and do not regre...

i think yes if you are happy with so much J on your wrist

 By: Passionata_george : January 28th, 2020-06:03
also please consider to move that piece later on the road might be won t that easy that any of the member of your current collection . IF you like the watch and it makes you happy my advice to go for it , a stunning piece for sure .

My take...

 By: keks : January 28th, 2020-06:13
Is if you are confident that wearing this full bracelet piece comfortably and you have acquired a more every day PP... then why not. It is a stunning piece and if that is what makes you happy I can see how that owning it would make more sense than the fou...

Two things to consider......................

 By: vicunaman1 : January 28th, 2020-07:32
1. Will you wear that beautiful 'grail' watch (with or without the bracelet) every day??? 2. Can you live with 'one pair of shoes'?? Two good options---the call is yours.. Good luck!!

I made a video last week that perfectly applies in this case

 By: SteveH : January 28th, 2020-07:35
My opinion is always to trade 4 for 1 if the 1 is what is catching your eye

I would not do it. Rose gold bracelet is too much for daily wear unless you like to show off.

 By: Pun : January 28th, 2020-09:24
I like my watches to project a sober and matured me instead. I therefore prefer platinum to yellow or rose gold bracelet. Your current collection is just sublime. I would not have disturbed that for any single watch.

I would do it if you

 By: watch-er : January 28th, 2020-14:12
want it. You can buy a strap and deployant buckle to change up at times. I would try and see what the aftermarket values will be. It may end up losing a lot of value, much more than what you're trading in.

Take a 5270 on a leather strap...

 By: jkvs : January 28th, 2020-14:40
...and keep one watch of your collection. I would choose the AP.

I am still in deliberations! [nt]

 By: @Patek_Ambassador : January 28th, 2020-17:16

I say go for it.

 By: sam1234 : January 28th, 2020-17:48
It’s clearly a matter of personal preference so my views on these particular watches mean nothing. As a matter of principle though, I like very much the idea of consolidation. A single extraordinary piece vs multiple lesser ones. A perpetual calendar chro...

It’s a nice proposition

 By: maroufios : January 28th, 2020-20:19
One super watch vs a few great ones. I’ve thought about doing that but some of the watches I own were passed down or gifts so they were off limits. The 5270R looks great on your wrist. I would not be able to pull it off but you do! I doubt it will be your...

I wouldn’t

 By: pejp : January 29th, 2020-07:41
The .5270 is absolutely spectacular, but I don’t care what the watch is, you’ll eventually get the itch to wear something else. I considered doing this recently to get a Datograph, and decided against it. You’ll never be ‘bored’ of the 5270 per se, but th...

Good point.

By: Costa (aka Connie) : January 29th, 2020-08:33
It’s human nature to always want what you don’t have.

I wouldnt

 By: watchrookiee : January 30th, 2020-23:39
I did something similar a year ago where I traded my 5905P and 5711R and a 116500 daytona for a 5970G which is my absolute grail. Now im very happy the watch is in my collection but I do miss my 116500 so I would suggest only letting go of 3 watches and k...

I would prefer the variety of several pieces.

 By: =RWK= : January 31st, 2020-20:56
Which is the spice that makes this hobby fun. Cheers, -- Richard.

5270/1R is a superlative watch

 By: RGS : February 1st, 2020-06:33
But it is not a one watch collection! It is part of - at least - a two watch collection. The other one being a Nautilus or an Aquanaut from the PP portfolio, for obvious reasons (every day use and water friendly being the most important ones). Cheers!
