FAKE listing of the sale of my family's 5175R-001

Jul 09, 2020,11:33 AM

Dear members,

Without permission, an unscrupulous dealer (Shanghai Yuezhi Trading Co., Ltd.) used my photo with my hand holding my late father’s Grandmaster Chime and listed it for sale on a well-known online watch platform ! This same photo was posted by me on this website on December 31st, 2019 as well.

Furthermore, when someone inquired about the listing, this fake seller again used the same photo in the reply.

Please let me clarify that my family and I had no knowledge of this FAKE listing & no affiliation with this dishonest dealer.  Additionally, this watch or any other Patek Philippe watches are our family heirloom pieces and will NOT be for sale.  We are very upset about this matter and wish to take the opportunity to clear any doubts that may arises.

Thank you for your kind attention !

Gosh...so sorry to see this is happening

This is beyond unbelievable! I hope C24 will step up and ban the seller. Can’t believe how they could even let the seller list the watch without verifying if information is real. I thought they ask for watch identification numbers to verify authenticity b...

Chrono 24 is just a bad platform.

 By: patrick_y : July 9th, 2020-11:59
They're in it for the money. Stolen watch? Sell it on our platform, as long as we can deny knowledge. That's why they have a policy of denying knowledge on everything so they don't have any liability. But if they don't have any liability, why do they char...

That’s called plausible deniability”

It’s what cheap people use

You're right! That's the exact term.

 By: patrick_y : July 9th, 2020-12:47
There are so few good and ethical dealers out there. And the vintage world. Oh man! That's why I don't like buying vintage watches. I know I'm going to get some relumed or "force-aged" dial and it won't be disclosed.

As I said in my previous post about such a watch being posted for sale...

 By: patrick_y : July 9th, 2020-11:57
Half of these dealers don't have half of the watches they're claiming to sell. They're just trying to get a contact list of potential buyers. Any real buyer who is truly thinking that such a watch is actually for sale is just stupid and naive. The watch w...

Rudy Kurniawan, what a story.

But as you say there are many Rudys in our world too.

There's also a 60 Minutes episode about one of the Koch brothers getting cheated and he hires a team of investigators to verify his art collection.

 By: patrick_y : July 9th, 2020-21:40
Koch basically describes how auction companies don't do their due diligence. When the bidder realizes something is wrong, the auction house tells the bidder to keep mum and they will auction it for free and give the bidder all the proceeds. So the bidder ...

Totally unacceptable ...

Thank you for the clarification. Legal actions need to be taken, although law enforcement might be difficult in that country.

Thanks for your note, Cbb. It's indeed shameful that a seller has lifted your pictures of this watch for what definitely appears to be a scam.

I think there is no doubt in anybody's mind that you treasure your family's Patek collection, and that you have no intention to sell these extraordinary pieces WatchProSite has a large number of viewers all over the world, so your announcement here will c...

That's really sad

That's really too bad. There are lots of scammers out there, ready to take advantage of any opportunity. Please don't be discouraged, the real collectors on this forum very much enjoys your posts and photos of your incredible collection, and it would be t...

Caramba.... sorry to hear this...

And good to hear that all the watches will stay with you and your family....

Glad that you were alerted to this, it’s shameful but as we all know it happens often.

I hope there is some consequence to the “dealer”.

I had reported many listings on C24 against many sellers but no action was taken...

Sorry to see that and I'm sure your Dad's treasures will pass on to many generations. Many sellers are using real photos and they are not selling at lower price just to make buyers feel it's a real watch....it;s a very scary world out there.

Dang! I was about to write a check! : )

Perhaps you could do something to digitally watermark your photos...

Well spotted!

Thank you for posting this and I am sorry that you have had to undergo this experience. I think the dealer must be delusional if he thought someone would part with $50m to buy a watch. A Grandmaster Chime is one of those watches that we do not expect to c...

Currency?

 By: gmark2800 : July 9th, 2020-20:32
Maybe Chinese dealer: 50,000,000 Yuan=$7,150,000 USD

It clearly states 50m dollars

 By: sham1 : July 9th, 2020-21:10
so no chance of it being in Yuan. In that used platform, you can state your preferred currency. Besides, the point here is that the photo was that taken by CBB implying that it is her watch that is being sold which is not the case. I stick to my argument ...

appreciate heads up

Thanks for giving everyone a heads up on this matter. I saw someone post a photo of this watch on Instagram a few days ago. In the comments I read that the rumor supposedly was a big collector in Hong Kong who was selling the watch, with lots of bottom fe...

For your kind words & believe!

I just don't understand what that seller is expecting!

 By: WH_ : July 10th, 2020-12:30
Due to C24's escrow system, he will not get the money unless the buyer receives the goods, and only after 14 days, once the buyer verifies that all is good. and for such a product, he can bet that the buyer will verify it twice. I just don't get what's th...
