A terrific trio that would be hard, if not impossible, to better. Each has a very special and strong appeal. I hope you continue to enjoy them for many years to come. All the best, Mike

The Patek Philippe "MacNab" - 5070p. 5970p and 5370p

 By: Baron - Mr Red : June 3rd, 2017-08:39
Based on the novel entitled “John MacNab” by John Buchan in 1925, the “MacNab” has become something of a legend amongst hunters. Explained briefly, it involves the bagging of a stag, a salmon and a brace of grouse within one day (between dawn and dusk). T...

Congrats Joe!

I buy your arguments and approach 100%. A perfect platinum Pated Trio. Simply fantastic! Best, Kari

Thanks Kari....

 By: Baron - Mr Red : June 3rd, 2017-08:54
Oddly I see a MacNab in your future. 😃

Joe... Bravo. You corrected a mistake, that's for sure.

 By: amanico : June 3rd, 2017-09:01
And a correction which was mandatory, since you got the 5370P. Now, add one, two or three Platinum and you have dream collection which will be hard to beat when it comes to Patek. Which other pieces am I thinking about? The 5110P you already own. The 5131...

.....i can see some of your suggestions....yes....

 By: Baron - Mr Red : June 3rd, 2017-09:13
....5110P.....already done. ....5131P......I am hopeful. 5960P.....i just can't get my head around the 5960 as a reference. I am having lunch soon with Miles and he will bring a 5960P as he agrees with you. For me, I am not a big fan of teh annual calenda...

but Kari.....

 By: Baron - Mr Red : June 3rd, 2017-09:47
.....you love the 5960 as a reference......i have never been a big fan. I will let Miles do his best to show me the error of my ways, but my money is not with him succeeding.

Amazingly beautiful and important watches, beautifully photographed!

 By: patekova : June 3rd, 2017-09:05
CONGRATULATIONS!! Now may I dare propose 5004P or 5204P, both split perpetuals and both manual wind. Best, patekova

ooh.....i can see i may have opened a Pandora's Box here!!

 By: Baron - Mr Red : June 3rd, 2017-09:16
Thanks Patekova........catching these three was a feat for me. As you know, I deliberated a long time on the 5970 and the metal colour. In the end, the platinum won out. But a MacNab can only be THREE...... and i defined my three. Having said that, both o...

Well, I think I speak for many in saying we look forward to seeing what direction that is .

 By: patekova : June 3rd, 2017-09:32
But in the meantime, I am going to put you on the spot. How do you rate the three in terms of sheer joy of ownership and wearing them?

i had a feeling that question might happen.....

 By: Baron - Mr Red : June 3rd, 2017-09:40
It is truly difficult to say X is better than Y, which is better than Z. They all have very different personalities and offer very different things at different times. nahhhhh.... you are not going to swallow that, are you? Although what I said in the fir...

a picture or two of the new addition....

Congratulations on this superb watch, a grail for many, at least for me...

 By: Clueless_Collector : June 3rd, 2017-09:37
Patek PCC is the benchmark so may I ignorantly ask why 5970, not 5270 or 3970, for modern Pateks? Thank you. Rgds Raymond

5970....

 By: Baron - Mr Red : June 3rd, 2017-09:45
......because I prefer the balance of the dial more than the other two references. It has a more harmonious balance to my eye. I also like the case shape more. The 3970 is on the small side for my taste for such a complicated piece. The 5270 is a consider...

Interesting comments regarding 3970 vs 5970. Yes, I also prefer the 5970. Your comment regarding the size of 3970 for

 By: patekova : June 4th, 2017-04:20
such a complicated watch spurred this thought. I prefer case style of 3970 to 5970. So the perfect watch for me would be 5970 tachometer dial in a larger 3970 style case, say 39-40 mm. No wonder this would appeal to me. It is basically a slightly larger, ...

yes.....

 By: Baron - Mr Red : June 4th, 2017-04:56
.....that is spot-on. When evaluating, i looked through the chronology of perpetual chronographs to see how they had evolved. Nothing has quite captured that magic of the 2499. Some get closer than others......

Huge congratulation, Baron!

By: blomman Mr Blue : June 3rd, 2017-09:38
And absolutely stunning trio! Best Blomman PS. This is why shop should always be closed....

unusually..... you are right on this one.

There isn't much to add; actually there is nothing to add.

 By: TheMadDruid : June 3rd, 2017-10:43
Even if I posted first I might have been speechless-or wordless or close. I congratulate you; and I agree you are wise to get back the 5970. It is THE Patek PCC; it's just perfect.

Thanks Mike....

I wrote you. [nt]

Genuinely....

 By: Baron - Mr Red : June 4th, 2017-00:33
I try to plan 1-2 years ahead. This is the completion of the chronos within PP. 5131p is a target. And of course important to watch what happens with 5230p. Beyond that, uhmmmm.....

A big congratulations on the "threebagger"

 By: watch-guy.com : June 3rd, 2017-13:34
I can see the appeal of having all three but this is a very special re-union for you Time to sit back and enjoy your hunting victims ( to continue the analogy) BTW I love the justification - you sure you were not a lawyer in your past life J

Correct

 By: Baron - Mr Red : June 4th, 2017-00:31
Time to sit back and enjoy. Unless.....

Congratulations, Baron

Bravo Joe,That's one nice watch

You needed that in your collection of love to see it when visiting London one day. Best, Ahmed

Thanks Ahmed

You are always welcome in London. It would be great to meet.

Aaaah, torture.

 By: zabreg1 Mr White : June 3rd, 2017-15:28
That 5970 is a dream. But, I must be partial to the 5370... Well done, my friend.

I agree

 By: Baron - Mr Red : June 4th, 2017-00:29
5370 is king. But 5970 is a totally different personality. Complimentary in fact.

Absolutely agree.

 By: zabreg1 Mr White : June 4th, 2017-00:42
Once I put the 5970 on my wrist, I was in love. A pure beauty

Firstly Joe congratulations on completing your Platinum set. I am very pleased for you.

 By: Miles_151 : June 4th, 2017-01:08
I've got to know you Joe fairly well recently and our collecting minds are very similar it appears. I have a massive respect for your passion, commitment and shear love for this hobby of ours. You know my thoughts on the 5970p and how it will create an it...

Thanks Miles.....

 By: Baron - Mr Red : June 4th, 2017-02:02
......i think if i had sold my original 5970p for "any" valid reason, I would agree with you. But it was pure and simple...mistake. I went through all the metals very carefully....but P was the one that worked....and for a range of reasons. Having said th...

My friend. I'll bring the 5960p

 By: Miles_151 : June 4th, 2017-02:59
On Tuesday with pleasure as I am right about this one as well as the 5970. I've seen more 5970p's for sale than any other metal. The reason is simple. People want to fall deeply in love with a Platinum 5970 so much they buy one only to realise they are be...

 By: Baron - Mr Red : June 4th, 2017-03:26
the white gold has been the most sold metal of the four over the last 7 years....marginally more than the rose gold. The least sold 5970, not surprisingly, is the yellow gold as it is way rarer. I hear what you are saying Miles....but take a look at my co...

Obviously you are only talking about auction results.

Time will tell my friend but in the meantime enjoy your stunning watches. M.

Congrats on completing your MacNab :)

 By: crown comfort : June 4th, 2017-02:04
the 5970P is a true marvel. Had the pleasure to try this one on at one of the GTGs and the size, the look, the complication just make a devilish cocktail.

Fantastic trio

 By: Vwong : June 4th, 2017-10:47
I have never seen a 5070P and probably never will in real life, is it the rarest of the 3? The 5370 enamel dial is so much blacker than the 5970, I find. The 5370P looks less cluttered and has a cleaner look, but the 5970 obviously has its charms as a per...

many thanks.....

 By: Baron - Mr Red : June 4th, 2017-11:04
......it is probably right to describe the 5070P as the rarest of the three. Probably only 150 were made in a 1 year production run. 5970P, the production was for just two years and it is believed that around 300 were made. 5370P is now in the second year...

5970P

You have a very nice theme and it shows how much Patek's references through their history have brought in terms of interest and diversification. Enjoy wearing your watches Joe and congratulations for the last 5970P. Best, Mark

Thanks Mark..... [nt]

 By: Baron - Mr Red : June 5th, 2017-01:03

I did not believe it when you mentioned it before that you sold a 5970 P once

By: COUNT DE MONET : June 4th, 2017-23:27
Very good to see it is back and completes a poetic theme for you.

Thanks M.....
