They sure do not like it, but didn't stop someone I know from wearing a half dozen or so Langes on his wrist over the years when purchasing from collectors in the US and driving/flying back across the border to Canada. If it's on the wrist, you are almost assuredly safe from questions.

I have a Family friend in Hong Kong. I’m in USA, California. If he were able to acquire say a Rolex or PP for me, how easy is it to ship one out of the country? How easy is it to hand carry through customs? Just wondering before I even attempt to ask him ...

Put the watch on your wrist. Put the box in you bag. Turn left when you board the plane. Enjoy the flight.

Maybe ship the box separately [nt]

Definitely mail the box to yourself separately.

Wear the watch on the wrist. Put the warranty card in your wallet. Enjoy the flight 😀

I’m sure it’s a dumb question, I just want to be sure.

I am told that Canada doesn’t like people buying Rolex and crossing border back to US. So I was not sure if HK has similar hang ups.

Since Rolex Geneva bought Rolex Bienne in 2005 you can now

import a Rolex into USA without any trademark issues. Rolex Bienne (formerly known as Aegler before exclusively supplying movements to Wilsdorf's Rolex Geneva) owned Rolex USA which was the trademark owner in the USA. Everywhere else in the world Rolex Ge...

Customs

Many countries now electronically notify US customs when one applies for the VAT refund when departing the foreign airport. I don’t know if Hong Kong has VAT or is one of them (France definitely is). It can make for awkward or worse moments entering US cu...

This is an area where customs officers have a lot of individual discretion

Technically they can ask you to prove that any item of foreign manufacture you are bringing into the country was your property before leaving and not something you need to declare and pay duty on. In practice they rely on their instincts so you don't want...

A Watch is not what they are looking for...

 By: U3O8 : September 4th, 2019-18:25
Ladies and Gentlemen, I know we love our watches. But we are taking things a little too seriously. Customs and Border Security Agents really don’t care about your watch. Or the box and papers. Seriously. Here’s what they are looking for: 1) Narcotics. In ...

Thank you everyone for the advice.

And for the record, I am not trying to break some law. My family friend is in HK ( right now he is actually in New York). I don’t get to HK so often ( more than 10 years ago). I hear that HK is a pretty big market and he is in financial sector. So if he c...

Hong Kong is one of the world's most expensive places to buy watches..... similar to buying diamonds in the NY diamond district! NO BARGAINS

I have visited Hong Kong 5 times in the past 18 months. BELIEVE ME - THERE ARE NO BARGAINS IN HONG KONG!!!! Mainland Chinese are crazy for luxury goods and will pay more than a stingy NY businessman...... believe me on this one. I have seen Chinese mainla...

Not everybody is looking for the cheapest watch...

If one is searching for high quality or rare pieces from reputable dealers, then HK is where you may want to be. These factors demand a premium and are what discerning collectors look for. However if your goal is to scavenge for the cheapest deal, then HK...
