I am thinking about buying my first Patek Philippe — a Gondolo, yellow gold, with the 5009j movement, 2002 — from a reputable used/vintage watch dealer. Any thoughts on this reference and movement? Alternatively, I am also considering a Vacheron Constanti...
I tend to think that PP had designed better dials -
The numerals a little bit too much off. But i love the Gondolo line, so i would look after the references that came just a few years later. Glad you can buy such a piece!

Owned a 5024G and loved it, my wife didn't I'm looking at a 5124G and it's worth you taking a look too. Good Hunting and a Patek is always a Patek

In full agreement with your points, Sham, including that the Gondolo line is (still) very much underrated...so given that the secondary market is the only viable option for it (at least for men), today is a great day to go for virtually any of them! ;-)
Here's my personal preference (a 5124G), but again, only buy a Patek if you love it....and never settle for less! Cheers. ...
Maybe best addition to these is their exhibition caseback...

I love the Gondolos, I own a 5109J which I love ! And yes you should definitely try them on before choosing, the feeling is just never the same on pictures and in the flesh ! ...
I would also recommend the 5124g but I’ve noticed listings shrink and prices rise so better hurry 😉

IMO the most important criteria is whether you
want a Patek. If yes, then this watch is quite unusual and interesting. Good luck with your decision !
