Patek Philippe 5170 Chronographs: A story of dials.

 By: amanico : March 17th, 2019-04:30
I made a quick collage about the different dials we had on the reference 5170. The only common point: The sub dials which always are under the 3 - 9 line. For the rest, the style of the sub dials, hands, indices change. One version doesn't have tachymeter...

Thanks, drg. [nt]

5170P, 5170G, 5170J and 5170R. Cheers. Best, V.

Hi Nicolas

Since I own the PP 5170P it is my favorite, the clean blue dial and the diamond hour markers make it very special...Jim

I will show one more version

IF AND WHEN 5170 will be officially discontinued. Best, Kari

Very very interesting tease there ;)

All the best, Niall

5170 very beautiful version

I will show a special version, too. But not yet...đŸ€đŸ€— Best regards Tempus

My favourite is the 1st option.

5170p’s dial is a bit too sporty... to the extent that it doesn’t feel like a 5170 anymore. As an owner of the 5170g with white pulsation dial, I find it difficult to accept the platinum rendition.

I voted with my purchase.

While I like them all, the baguettes are not my cup of tea on the P, and I like the vintage reference with the pulsation dial of the G best. ...

I like the first (wg/silver dial) except would wish for the hands of the black dial.

 By: emcquillan : March 17th, 2019-08:22
Assuming there could be no changes at all, my favourite is the wg/silver dial.

Wonderful reference...

 By: keks : March 17th, 2019-08:54
Of these four my preference would be the P... it has it all. Only change I would request is the removal of lume on hands... A version I really like also is the Beyer J, most classical iteration in my opinion...

It is a shame that this thread was polluted but.....

I find the black dial 5170 the most appealing. White metal and black dial. Love that. The hands are perfect. Breguet numerals....lovely. Yes, it would be my choice here.

Only problem with the 5170G-010

 By: Chromatic Fugue : March 17th, 2019-09:57
... is the tendency of the hands to blend into the black dial in certain light, making it hard to tell the time. Other than that, a great model.

Fair enough but ...

 By: Chromatic Fugue : March 17th, 2019-13:10
This is just personal preference: I like my watch to tell me the time clearly and directly, not vaguely and quietly. (Also, I don’t always have my reading glasses with me. : ))

Black dial, applied Bréguet numerals is my choice...

 By: mahesh : March 17th, 2019-09:47
White dial with applied BrĂ©guet numerals also equally look good but the hands aren’t my preference! Thanks for sharing Nico. Best, Mahesh.,

Nice collage Nico, thanks!

My favourite is the P, followed by the black G and R with Breguet numerals. Then the white G and J because not a big fan of that type of hands.

Here is my (very biased) vote for the G.

The P is second place. I like the J next. Best, H ...

My vote goes to the P.

Represents best in this era for the 5170 series.... with the gradational dial and diamonds indices (which I personally find very subtle and elegant).

Mix

I agree with you I like bits of each version! I also remember a cool 5170J Beyer edition that had a blue tachymetre writing. I think that was a nice twist. Best

P surely, hands down

I've handled them all, but not an owner yet. ...

I vote for the 5170G :)
