Aside from a lack of communication

Which is not very good, what you describe is acceptable in my opinion.

Most brand do not return parts from service. This is to avoid feeding the Franken watch market. Only Longines return parts from my Dad’s vintage model. The fact that the bracelet was upgraded is in line with what PP did with the Calatrava folding clasp, replacing the old model for the Calatrava cross model, a more secured model apparently. It may well be that pins are more secured than screws, I think that is why the change was made. The 5711 model is not vintage so it does not go to the vintage department and as such this is probably part of their standard service procedures.

Finally, you can get a 1.5 link for the new bracelet model. I was offered one when I got my 5712A in 2015.

Enjoy your « new » 5711!

My 5711 has just come back from an ultra complete overhaul with PP in Geneve

I decided to bring it to a like new condition, opting for a bracelet replacement also. The 11 yo one was slightly used and I am a "maniac" Many reasons for joy BUT...unfortunately it involves a "but" and I would like to hear your opinions on how big is th...

My personal take...

... if they charge you the full price of a new bracelet they have to return the old one. If it was a lower „replacement price“ not returning the old bracelet is absolutely understandable. They should have informed you that the new bracelet is of a differe...

Ouch. They just downgraded you to pins?!

Totally unacceptable in my view. That is not the original spec of the watch. Pins. Yuk. I'm with you, this is why I have no interest in Nautilus since. The other issues are unacceptable too. It's all your property. Just get a Lange. Much better attention....

Rap Is Correct...

... Get a Lange.

There are several people here who have sold all their lange watches after customer service issues.

Which is not a defense of PP, which has had, at least as far as I have seen online, many more issues.

I Am Sure...

They should have thoroughly explained the difference...

A Patek Philippe Service Consultant should thoroughly explain the difference. 1. An email or phone call should've explained why they recommended a bracelet replacement. 2. If a bracelet replacement is requested or approved by the buyer, then Patek Philipp...

Do people who are detail orientated ever have a good experience with PP servicing their watches?

A little serious in the question (which could be made of most brands) although I understand it could be seen as inflammatory, that is not my intention (and apologies to all). It seems that this happens regularly and that a good piece of advice would be to...

Horrifying especially from Patek

This situation would be totally unacceptable!! I am not sure if you have any recourse here

Sorry to hear...

What was wrong with your old bracelet and do you know if there any good options for reconditioning? Patek apparently subscribes to the replacement rather than repair approach but I’ve heard that there’s folks out there who do a nice job fixing Rolex brace...

Now, that you asked, I believe my old bracelet was fine

 By: radone : December 12th, 2019-13:03
In fact, when that watch was sitting on the dial, the bracelet did not sit round, as it should, but rather flat.

Thank you!

I am still waiting for an answer from them.

Unacceptable

 By: CastorKrieg : December 13th, 2019-04:19
By changing the bracelet for a new one they have basically created a new reference - I would subscribe to the opinion that repair departments are removed from the brand values. Surely Patel would know this would destroy the second hand market value.

I think you need to communicate with Patek to have a clear picture

 By: Bill : December 4th, 2019-22:42
Our speculations only fuel the fire. The practice is not unusual and think when you have a chance to communicate your position it will be resolved.

Why would you

 By: watch-er : December 5th, 2019-08:01
swap out the screw bracelet for the cheap pins. The screws add just enough heft to give the bracelet a nice drape. The pins are very light (need to be to stay in place) and make the whole watch feel very flimsy and cheap to me. If your happy, that is what...

Please explain

...when the clasp is closed and the watch was sitting on dial side, it was almost flat. For some years, it was my daily wear and, apparently, this is what happens with time.

Are you sure the pin bracelet is thicker?

 By: RussW : December 8th, 2019-16:58
I thought the bracelets were otherwise identical, apart from screws versus pins.

I’ve read that Rolex also don’t return the replaced originals of the watch.

 By: Pun : December 11th, 2019-19:49
Perhaps the logic of this practice by brands is to stop the originals from falling into secondary markets for sale.

It depends on how they charge for it I guess...

 By: pejp : December 11th, 2019-21:01
If a brand new replacement bracelet cost say $1k to purchase outright, but in the context of a service it’s just included as part of the service cost, then I can understand it. However if they charge for a service and then charge that $1k in top as a sepa...

I sent you by PM how much I paid.

Welcome to the wonderful world of Swiss Watch “customer service.”

This brand has been co-opted by rappers, celebrities, flippers and quick movers and that’s OK if that’s what the brand wants it’s image to be. They just don’t feel special any more, like they used to. I’m not sure what their current identity is, once you ...

Patek should have communicated the bracelet type would change and the amound of links included.

Now Patek should come with a satisfying poposal.
