Allocation or not?

Jul 24, 2021,23:30 PM

FabR says it's not an "allocation piece". Saz implies it is.

I couldn't get one. I have some friends who are major collectors who didn't either (different dealers).

For what it's worth, Sylvester Stallone and Mark Wahlberg both got the diamond green Nautilus.

My guess: each dealer got very few to distribute as they saw fit. Then some dealers asked Patek for more, as in, "Mr. X wants one, please let's get it for him."

I believe my dealer did that for me (but Patek didn't provide any others to them at least).

Who qualifies green 5711?

 By: LPcanon : July 24th, 2021-05:29
So we’ve seen lots of fire on recent Antiquorum auction. Sounds like GP received green 5711 from his mom, but this is quite an exception. So I was curious. What is general criteria for qualification for allocation of green 5711? 10 PP watches? No resell h...

Welcome to our forum and hope you will have a good time here !

Great if you could provide more information about yourself and your interests.

Thank you!

I am a Patek enthusiast in Japan. Yes it is very competitive and hard to obtain any RoyalOaks Daytonas and Nautiluses here as well.

All of the above...

It's a simple answer to this simple question. You have to be deemed worthy. Either the authorized dealer has already received a lot of business from you or they expect to receive a lot of business from you. That's it. And yes, of course if you're a known ...

Thanks a lot

Your answer very much cleared up my mind. He has to be a perfect client, I understood.

You got it!

Minute repeaters

By: socal to az : July 24th, 2021-06:37
My AD got 2 green 5711. I would say I’m a very good customer. Perpetual calendar good. However- a perpetual calendar is not as good of a customer as a minute repeater.

Wow

Minute repeater equals 3 perpetual calendars so to speak?? Such a long way to Rome..

Money talks

I have a very good rapport with my AD. Have been invited to Geneva, New York etc. I asked about the 5711 green. He looked me in the eye and said- what am I supposed to do? Say no you can’t have a watch to the guy that spent 1.5 million with me last year??...

1.5 million and still not enough

Oogh, such a pain. I agree, another shining toy might be coming. As Mr. Stern mentioned as “another bomb”, and JZ on Instagram said red dial.. who knows???

Welcome to our forum! Let me just add to Patrick's very good answer above that there's simply no criteria and no strict guidelines from Patek on a 5711 allocation, given that it's a VERY basic, non-application piece.

 By: FabR : July 24th, 2021-10:36
Your AD will just receive a certain number of them (ranging from 0 to very few units), and then try to make some of his/her best clients happy, among those who care about a 5711....that's pretty much it ;-) Hope you have a great time on WatchProSite!

Thanks a bunch

Got it. Some say the piece was upgraded to an allocation piece, but who knows🤷‍♂️

Nope, if by "allocation piece" you mean one that is centrally allocated to a specific customer (e.g., like for certain Grand Complications or out-of-catalog pieces), that is certainly not the case.

 By: FabR : July 24th, 2021-12:28
However, let me call it a "no-mistake piece," if you will....since allocation by an AD to a flipper will almost surely result in Patek terminating its relationship with that AD ;-)

Aha!

Unobtainable either way, but thank you 🤦‍♂️

I have applied for the green nautilus!

I am a good customer ( one watch from PP per year at least) My AD received only one that was allocated to a friend and I was really happy for him. The AD told me that he got 10 requests that were sent to PP in Geneva and they replied with one name… I star...

That is definitely a smart AD ;-) And they haven't been the only ones to do this... Keep in mind that while you are realistic and understand how demand for a 5711 works, many customers simply do not....and ADs are in a *very* tough position here ;-)

 By: FabR : July 25th, 2021-00:04
I still wouldn't call this an "application piece", and I'm pretty sure your AD could have just assigned it to whichever customer they wanted also in your region. But to have Patek (at whichever level) give input on or "filter" a short list of top names, a...

In the UK it was upgraded to an allocation piece

 By: DOCSF : July 25th, 2021-13:59
The UK distributer considered the names submitted by the AD

👍I have no direct relationship with Rhone, but my understanding is in fact that they exercise a pretty strict control on the watches for the UK market, not just the 5711...

 By: FabR : July 25th, 2021-14:30
So I’m not surprised should they *require* an AD to clear a customer’s name with them first, even for a 5711 (though frankly I wasn’t aware of this practice)...then for the UK, if this is now the case, this would certainly be what I also call an applicati...

Ha!

I got it. I wonder this potential allocation upgrade is worldwide or not.

Generational loyal clients

A friend of mine was allocated a piece. The family has been collecting PP with the AD for three generations.

THREE Generations!

Wow I have to get married and make kids first.. Thank you for valuable advice!

and what that would require

Tiffany you mean
