I had a watch serviced that I had owned since new and beat the crap out of for many years and it came back looking like, well, new. I was very sad, it no longer felt like may watch. On the other hand, I had a preowned watch serviced and polished like new and I was ecstatic. It looked amazing and now I had the opportunity to start my own journey with it.
IMHO, I would do whatever makes you happy when you are wearing the watch.

if the watch is in very good condition then better to defer. Especially if you might want to sell at a later time, then my understanding is that most buyers would prefer it not have been polished. -a

The price of a watch drops after a polish. Collectors usually prefer unpolished or in its original state but If I have a scratch or a ding that bothers me a lot, I would have it "fixed"otherwise I would leave it be.

Thanks
