5230g trade cold feet

 By: xxn : October 20th, 2020-10:27
Had an opportunity to trade my RO15202 40th anniversary today for a 5230-01 today plus small margin my way. Couldn’t pull the trigger because of noticeable finishing differences between both (yes apple to oranges comp). Would a 5230 be the right 1 patek o...

Umm ...🤔 , as the Patek Moderator IMO the 5230 is part of the Patek...

iconic worldtime series. If one was to have only one Patek, 5230 is a good choice 👍

I applaud you for considering a trade like that.

5230 is one of the most underrated Patek releases. Yet, it's a tough one. 15202 has "it" factor and its popularity is not going anywhere... Good luck!

Finishing is important to you and a quality of the watch itself,

"the market" is something that is extraneous to the watch on the wrist and I would advise caring much less about it.

I think you said it yourself, you stated what matters to you and which watch meets that.

Who cares if the market hypes something beyond all reasonable level, or if the cool crowd all want to be seen with one. If it floats your boat then that's reason enough to have it.

Thank you ALL for sharing your thoughts 🙏

5230 had amazing wrist presence at 38.5mm, heft and lug shape. I just wish the case had some contrast polish/brush and I suppose that would have made me go for it. Absolutely enjoyed the experience.

I always applaud resentment-based decisions!

So I'm with you on the motive. Also, I own just one Patek Philippe, and it's a world time (5110g rather than 5230) so I absolutely regard "just one world time" as a good way to own PP. I could have others instead, I could have others as well (well, not TO...

Thats a gorgeous dial👌🏻

Seems WT’s are functional, understated, proportional and unique i.e. the polar opposite of my dilemma. Thanks for your input🙏

I can only agree with the friends who commented earlier -- the point is that Worldtimers are a truly iconic Patek line, so having one as your only Patek does make lots of sense in my view.

The only thing to consider is that the 5230 has never quite "taken off", at least comparatively to other models, hence it's normally available at (or at least easy to source by) any AD. Buying new is, on multiple levels, a different experience from tradin...

5230g is a killer. One of the best world time iterations IMO and probably the most wearable side wise

15202 is a completely different type of watch and of course hard to give up. I think it’s just a question of what suits your lifestyle better.

This forum is priceless

for informative and thoughtful information. Got to be honest though trading and flipping is something I wish to never go through again. May just store away my dilemma and hope the hype fades....

if you have doubts don't do it

it's not a hard model to find so take your time and only jump in when you are sure enough.

Decision made

The feedback on the forum and after consulting a PP specialist directly, I’ve decided to put the RO in the back of my safe and let this steel sport hype fade the goal is to ultimately own both a WT and Jumbo someday🤞thanks everyone

Thanks for the advice

Case of 5110 of 5130 is undoubtedly more popular
