The 40mm No Date Tonda PF Chronograph
A surprise introduction from Parmigiani last week was a smaller Tonda PF Chronograph in a new dial color called "Mineral Blue."
The redesigned case measures 40mm by 12.72mm which is 2mm less in diameter than the "standard" Tonda PF Chronograph. The new case is actually slightly thicker by .3mm. As with all watches in the Tonda PF range, the bezel is platinum with 220 fine incisions around the dial.
One doesn't have to be called "amanico" to notice that the date, which is positioned at 4 o'clock on the standard model, has been removed from the new chronograph. The absence of the date makes the dial wonderfully balanced.
The wrist fit is excellent as you would expect with a watch of these proportions. Here it is shown on a 7.25 inch wrist.
Under the hood is the superb 5 Hz, 65 hour automatic caliber, PF070-COSC. The suffix on the caliber indicates it's a COSC certified movement.
The craftsmanship of the bracelet is tops in class, making for a supple fit and comfortable all day watch. There is no micro-adjustment capability on the bracelet. Our PF contacts indicated there is nothing in the works regarding adding this feature in the foreseeable future.
In the course of our 90 minute meeting in the Parmigiani booth, it became quite clear that subtle and nuanced dial color introductions are part of the new product launch strategy of the brand. To illustrate the point, below are stock images of three new shades of recently introduced blue dials.

Getting back to the 40mm Tonda PF Chronograph, we were told that the catalyst for its launch was the unexpected success of the no-date Tonda Micro Rotor in 2024. This new 40mm dateless chronograph has a bit of the "it factor" in person and I suspect it will be a commercial success for the brand.
Thank you for looking.
