TimeOut: Given the price of vinyl....

.... of $30-50 a record, I am not sure I would entrust my precious records to this gadget....

Independents: Ditto (+2)

My jump seconds is also 42mm and it is eminently wearable. You might want to consider a titanium case rather than steel: I find it makes for improved wearability because the reduced weight also reduces the watch's tendency to move around on the wrist. I'd also second the silvered dial: mine looks sp

Horological Meandering: Watches in Munich and Vienna

Just a heads-up for continental Europeans: the German-speaking equivalents of the Salon QP are on again, in Munich on 4-6 November and in Vienna on 11-13 November. Alex

Horological Meandering: A Couple of Examples

spring to mind. Jay Lake wrote an alternative-earth trilogy where horology is not only mentioned but a vital plot device: "Mainspring", "Esapement" and "Pinion". In "The Grand Complication" by Allen Kurzweil, Breguet's long-lost Marie Antoinette watch is central to the plot. Alex

Paul Lullin was a Swiss immigrant (quite common in those days) and worked in London around the turn of the 18th century. Horological Meandering: No-one has mentioned Cartier

and surely they deserve honourable mention? The Santos is one of the very first specific wristwatch designs and, as it is still manufactured today, the oldest surviving design family. Also the Tank: a classic design of extreme longevity that has pretty much defined elegant timekeeping for the lady o

Horological Meandering: Risky in what way?

An excellent comparison, and many thanks ... but why do you conclude this design is risky? One would have to examine and compare the mechanisms in detail to determine any similarities, of course, but surely as a concept this is more a case of resurrecting an old idea? IWC built (pocket) watches with

Horological Meandering: A 3-digit code?

Not very safe, methinks... A cool safe is the safety deposit at Harrods in London -- in addition to the usual keys and combinations, they have time locks operated by vintage Waltham Riverside movements visible through a see-through back. Picture-taking not permitted, alas.
