A possibly interesting visual history of a certain military pilot/racer chronograph aesthetic…

To some, what I’ve put together below is no secret; but for me it’s been a truly fun ride and learning process. This story/post begins here: 2 mos ago I spotted and felt suddenly and bizarrely compelled to buy this 90s Speedy Auto Date MK40 (3513.53), iss

Best of Balance Wheels

In this "Best of" series, let's be entertained by some of the industry's boldest and wackiest balance wheels. Please help me add in more examples. Cheers! In George Daniels Watchmaking book, he mentioned that larger balance wheels are often more precise -

When is it time to stop?

Duration of ownership vs midterm/longterm value. I do ask myself the question do i bail out on some pieces while i can or do i keep it because of 1) sentimentality 2) the perceived notion that it’s a “good investment” 3) “it still makes me smile” 4) vanit

What is your collection theme or style?

Or getting weird looks when people in the office see that I had a “lowly” Seiko on my wrist.. And meeting a fellow watch nerd was a real rare treat! Social media changed all that definitely. More info at ones fingertips, for example, kinda dampens the exp

Since I Have So Much Time To Read

Can anyone recommend a few watch books? I’m interested in large coffee table style books (already have Moonwatch Only) about the art of watches / watchmaking as opposed to technical manuals or manuals on collecting...a top 5/10 if you will.

A different perspective: what is the watch you wear the least, but still keep?

And I am not talking about a watch that is inaccessible in a safe, or a watch that you got when you were 15. A watch, say, that you bought within the last several years, keep in your dresser and could wear at any moment but don't? Why do you have it, why

Long read – an analysis of my collection, and some thoughts on brands

Thank you for sharing this journey and like you, I used to like to buy 1-2 watches of each brand’s best offering. Then the same question about consolidating and reality sets in which makes me only focus on PP, ALS, Rolex and Omega. I didn’t want to ventur
