Breaking free!

 By: ZSHSZ : January 10th, 2021-07:07
Yesterday I decided to add another notch to the belt, and visited Louis Lunch in New Haven witch is known as the birthplace of the Hamburger Sandwich.
Just over one hour drive from New York, hidden on a little side street, a small charming place with wonderful service, and insanely tasty food!
Ketchup, mayonnaise is tabu, only a slice of tomato and one onion ring in a toast! Forget about French Fries, how about potato salad instead!
The original Seth Thomas eight day clock still ticking strong!
A great day trip for sure, and lovely food!

Solid choice

Looks delicious! I miss being able to go to a dinner like such or any restaurant for that matter! They are all still closed up north!

I haven’t made it to Louis Lunch yet. But I’ll make a point to visit on my next trip to New Haven.

Whenever I’m in New Haven I always think of coal-fired pizza first. Anybody who knows New Haven knows the town is divided by which local pizza you prefer. You’re either a devotee of Pepe’s or Sally’s. I definitely prefer Sally’s, but Pepe’s is pretty darn good too. It’s kind of like the two Philly Cheesesteak camps in South Philadelphia — Pat’s vs. Geno’s.

My kids regularly make (or did, before COVID) the pilgrimage to Zuppardi's in West Haven, and I think it's justified. (But what do I know? In New Haven itself, I prefer Modern.)

Thanks for the tips about Zuppardi’s and Modern. I’ll definitely put them on the list.

Did you take a photo of the vertical burger broilers? Castings from the late 1800's. Thanks for making me drool! -John

I didn't, the place way packed, I only managed to take a picture of the old toaster...

If you want something different in New Haven, the row of taco trucks off of the Long Wharf exit is fantastic, Mexicali being my favorite. Before the pandemic, I would visit our Manhattan office once a month. On my drive north to Massachusetts I would make it a point to stop for tacos. These might be the best taco trucks I have had outside of Southern California.
BTW beautiful Patek Philippe.
Safe travels,

Another reason why I like this forum, I always get great ideas! Thanks Wojo!
