Many of you will know I don't like Rolex, I don't like mass appeal, and I don't like bling. Many of you will also know I love diving, I love original classics, and timeless design. How would these marry and find compromise or even happiness??
I recently wrote a post asking fellow Purists for advice regarding a choice between 2 submariners- the 2010 Baselworld Kermit, and the 14060M.
Guess what happened?
I went down to the AD today and took a darn long time deciding and decided to go for my love-hate for 3 years. I like green, and i like the submariner, but Rolex as a brand to me, is kinda boring. The submariner, though, i think, transcends the dislike i have for all the other watches in the brand, because i'll be using it as a real tool watch, not a safe queen or luxury paris hilton armpit dog.
I decided against the 2010 kermit because, as it, as someone here wrote, will attract sharks and triggerfish to attack, instigated by the shining dial. A dive watch, should be matt in colour. I think the 2010 version is too bling that it lost it's roots, and probably someone not a diver designed it.
Here's the surprise-I decided against the 14060M as well. I like things personalized to my liking, and green happens to be my favourite colour.
I'll take this new purchases down to the ocean with me, and plan to go shark diving with it in the near future. And i vow it will be a permanent part of my collection.

...and excellent taste in masks, too.
(That is an Atomics Frameless? Best mask ever. I have a clear and a black version, just got an OMS black skirt with separate lenses for night dives..not sure it'll measure up)

Light and easy to store as well. I can't wait to use it soon! I'm glad you share the same passion and taste.
Night dives are a peaceful adreneline rush!

Just got a DiveRite700 torch and want to try out the umbilical with my gear (also changed from an Aluminium to a SS backplate, so trying out some weighting options...no more weightbelt) as well as the less-peripheral vision OMS Mask (which is the only downfall of the Atomics, little too much glare on night dives).
Next weekend is another dive on the Canberra. Last one before the water gets too cold.
You'll have to take some underwater shots of the Rolex.
I gotta find a shark next time i go. I do diving around Singapore, and SE asia is a heaven for diving, with Tioman Island and Perhantian Island. Funny thing is I never saw a shark when diving, only 1 white tip juvenile while snorkeling.
I look forward to your adventures as well. We all live for this right? Work hard and play harder.
.....planning on Perhentian for July. Or Phllipines..
Sharks? Saw these in Bali last year:
