I am new to this forum and to be honest I joined to try to learn about an old watch of my late Father's. (see my other post).

I was just reading this post and the photo of the EXPLORER without the bezel or date caught my eye. It is just like the other Rolex my father left me. This watch was given to me  twenty-five or so years ago when my father's Parkinsons disease did not allow him to keep it going. I do not wear it now as the crystal is badly 'crazed' (I think that is the correct term)

  What do you passionate collectors say? Am I doing it an injustice...and possibly even harm...by keeping it in the safe? Could I have the crystal replaced?

Rolex is to be seriously considered.

Not the hottest, but not the less charming, too.

The difficulty is to find a nicely patined one....

But the hunt is part of the pleasure, too!

Thankyou so much for your review of the 1655.

After reading do I "almost" regret I sold my 16570, maybe due to the fact that the GMT's are better usable than the expolrer.

Often overlooked watches like these were not stars of their time and had relatively smaller production numbers made them even more desirable when the trend reverse. Could the 70s be a time when pragmatism prevails, the 1655 being so "avant garde" did not appeal, but today it is very cool to have an orange and white accent on the dial side !

I have several anecdotes about the 1655 from guys here and there who witnessed on the fact that these Explos weren't loved at all...

Well, not sure that things changed a lot, because when you tink about Vintage rolexes, the same competitors always immediately come to mind, and the 1655 is not the first one...

I'm one of those who defend them for what they are, a very interesting and lovely watch.
