Help assessing size

With apologies, asking for a bit of honest advice. Smitten with this ceramic pilot’s chrono, but is its 44.5mm case simply too big for my wrist (maybe 6.75 inches). Thanks!

I would recommend looking at it in a mirror perhaps 1 metre away.

Instead of close up

Perhaps like this?

Yep exactly. In my humble opinion, it looks great on you. đź‘Ť

It’s down to individual preference

I don’t mind wearing huge pilot watches since traditionally they were meant to be big. The black ceramic case makes your 3789-01 looks smaller too

Looks fine to me!

nice watch too.

For me, it works. Not too big.

Looks great and not too big on you.

If you like it enough, the slight overhang can be overlooked

I might be biased as I normally like big watches, but this seems the proper size for a pilot chrono.....and it does genuinely look good on you! ;-) Enjoy!

Mixed feelings there, as there is no straight forward answer.

As such, the watch suits you pretty well, but you are probably used to wear smaller diameters. Diameters are really a matter of habits, I used to wear only 40/42+ mm watches (Seiko Monster, IWC Rattrapante), and then I suddenly got interested in vintage watches, and the first time I wore a 33mm GP Gyromatic I was almost shocked... I loved so much the watch that I sticked to it, and kept on for some time.
I finally got used to it, and I now happily switch from 33 to 42mm and I am neither shocked by the size of the IWC nor by the GP ! Once you get used to it, anything can be worn !
Enjoy it !

Looks good to me!

It certainly is true :black wears small.

I will have to agree also, it looks good on you.

And after all, it's a great looking watch. And I also agree that with pilot watches, the bigger the better. Size makes them fun to wear. I really like big watches, even as big as in my  BIG PILOT at 46mm. It's big, of course, but makes a fantastic wrist statement of IWC's Big Pilot.. FYI my wrist is 7.5 in (18mm).

Totally! Even close up wrist shot looks

Good! Like others said, black watches look smaller on the wrist.

Thanks everyone!

Really appreciate all the comments. It’s a big one for me, but it didn’t feel that big—perhaps because of the light weight and case color—when on the wrist. Thank you for the helpful notes.

Looks fine. Close up wrist shots always make watches look larger.

Wear it and enjoy it.

Looks great to me!

Even up close, I think it looks fine. The photo with a bit of distance makes it look great! Go for it!

Just went through the same dilemma

Hey Bob,
Funny to see your post. I just went through the same dilemma between the ceramic chrono 44.5mm and the 41mm ceratanium.
While the 41mm case is a little better for sizing it did not feel that much smaller. So I got the 44mm and it has been great. I prefer the white and red dial painting on the larger case and with the chrono and day date function the size is something my eyes are grateful for.
I have a Panerai Radiomir 45mm and that does wear smaller with the wire lugs and thinner case. However the chrono feels like a fun instrument on the wrist and is lighter because of the ceramic. It is not something I’m wearing with a suit, more while working at my studio or on a motorbike.

And at 5’-11” and 175 lbs it doesn’t feel wildly large. Good luck with your decision.

Perfect size for you

If it’s not too thick then that’s a keeper!
