Officine Panerai

I've never owned a Panerai and I am looking at purchasing my first. I was looking at the Panerai Ferrari Scuderia Chronograph FER 008.

Any advise on the watch?

im not so sure that they are considered a pam as they are exclusive watches made for Ferrari by Panerai  i could be wrong but im sure someone will clarify this for us,
 as for the watches they seem to be made well made and some actually do have some striking features, you can find them at quite reasonable prices as Pam has ceased agreement with Ferrari so we wont see no more made by Panerai let us know how you go with it

I'm not too sure as well but a friend mentioned they are very much considered pam. Based on Anthonys feedback I'll be doing some home work around other models then deciding from there.

because the design and look of a Ferrari Panerai watch isn't the same as a "regular" Panerai watch.

What's important though, is that you like the watch.  So if you like the FER008, then I'd suggest getting it.  Then maybe for your 2nd Panerai, I'd look into getting a non-Ferrari Panerai.

 What would you recommend as a first Panerai?

I would suggest a Luminor so the PAM111, PAM112, PAM233, PAM312, PAM0, and PAM5 come to my mind.  It's difficult to give any suggestions without knowing your preferences and what other watches you have in your collection, but the main thing you should decide is do you like 40mm, 44mm, or 47mm?

They are really NICE...and they are Panerai inside, but I really dont find the FER as ¨real¨PAMs...Thats my feeling.

I would go for a BASE model of the line up (111, 177, 005 or 000, or 210) or even a 312. Thats the real feeling of a PAM.

But in case you go for a FER, agree its a great piece.

to start with a Ferrari, though, I'm not sure it's the way to go. Nothing wrong with the Ferrari's models but, they have very little to do with the Panerai "spirit" and feel IMO...

Thanks for the sound advice, really appreciated it. In the end I decided on a PAM111 and thankfully there was one unit in stock and I picked it up.

Btw, the wife asked what PAM stands for and I couldnt answer

Followed by a number, for ex PAM 000, PAM 64, PAM 127, and so on.

While on Pre Vendome, it was a code number almost always followed by a letter ( A ).

For example 5218 - 201/ A, 5218 - 301/ A... The only watches which didn't get the letter after the numbers being the Mare Nostrum Slytech ( 5218 - 302 or 304 ).

So, Paneristis use to use " PAM " to describe a Panerai watch, which is not always correct, as it is only a part of the Vendome Reference, and that it is not concerning the Pre V watches.
